Boost fluctuates
I need help knowing if this is a problem or not. I jus bought my srt-4 about 3 months ago. Just recently i have been looking at the boost guage and it does not stay steady. I read somewhere that in first gear it should only boost up to 10 psi. But what is the boost suppose to be for for 2nd and 3rd gear? When i'm in 3rd gear it will sometimes boost up to 14psi then drop down to about 11psi. Is there something wrong?
I've been told the srt-4 is notorious for haveing the vaccum hoses blow off. how will i know when there is a vaccum hose blown off? And can anyone you tell me why the 2nd gear PSI reading is so low....
I haven't had a hose blow off, but I did have an air temp sensor blow off. It made a loud "Pop" and the engine noise changed (got lower and louder). Power dropped off quite a bit as well.

spiking to 14 and holding 11 is normal, it's not low at all. that's how boost works, it doesn't go to a certain psi and stay there, it spikes and then settles back down. when these cars are stock, they don't usually blow lines. they have leaks, yes, but blowing lines is something that tends to happen once you start modding.
do a boost leak check on it, because i'm sure that it's leaking. but overall, there's nothing wrong with your numbers. remember too that weather effects boost. colder weather = less psi showing. power output is the same, it just takes less boost to achieve the same power in denser air.

Thank you for all the info so far. I"m still new to this car and still learning. How do i performe a boost leak test? And yeah it is gettin colder here so that must be what is throwing me off too.... I"m in the military and don't make much money, most of it goes to my insurance and car payments... but so far i got: K&N typhoon Cold air (just recently brought it up to short ram before it snows), DC front strut, Mopar BOV, and polyurathane motor mount inserts.
none of those mods are going to really effect boost at all, so you should be seeing stock levels, which you are.
to do a boost leak test build one of these. hook it up to the turbo and push some compressed air through it. listen for hissing, that's when you know you have a leak.

I'm very limited to what i can do w/ the tools that i have. What and where is a boost leak most commonly located? What do i have to do or replace in order for the leak to be fixed? I'm pretty new to this car, so i'm clueless to what has to be done to it....
