Default More 1/4 mile help please!

Well since I got the boost leaks in check I decided to run the gtech again, and to my disapointment I'm really not running much better than I was with leaks.

I'd like some help analyzing what the hell the prob could be... I got my 60fts to 2.3s consistantly now compared to 2.4-2.6 before. I thought I was shifting pretty good, but I dont know. One thing I noticed is I have some major lag in 3rd gear today... It spikes 14-15, but then drops right off to 10 then back up to 13-14 again. Not sure exactly what the deal with that is.

Previous Best Time only boosting 11 in all gears

60FT: 2.426
330FT: 6.382
1/8: 9.557 @ 80.06
1000FT: 12.242
1/4: 14.560 @ 97.21
0-60: 5.927

New best time as of today boosting normal

60FT: 2.314
330FT: 6.274
1/8: 9.456 @ 79.65
1000FT: 12.151
1/4: 14.485 @ 96.15
0-60: 5.849

I also ran a 14.4@98 and a 14.5@98

So do the new numbers look normal (minus bad driving). I guess assuming I could run a 2.1 60ft I could hit a 14.0-14.1. Maybe I still need to work on my shifting. And maybe I'm still assuming it would be easier than it is to cut a 13.9 or something like that. I forget to even lower the tire pressure so I guess I need to try that out also.

I guess more than anything I'd like some confirmation that according to my numbers my car could run better times, with better driving. Sorry for the lame posts, but I'm learning! BTW, I just picked up a brand new Mopar cat back for $290, not bad huh. Maybe after that I will run low 13s [8D]

Sounds like the computer was pulling back timing. What octane fuel are you using? How hot was it outside? How hot was the engine? Were you doing back to back runs without cooling?

91 Octane, Shell. 91 is best we have in CA. It's pretty cool out, was probably mid 50s low 60s tops. Temp gauge at normal temp. I did all the runs pretty much back to back. A couple minutes of light driving inbetween.

One other note, I first went with the airbox lid off... I took it off last weekend and loved the sound so I been driving with it off. After a few runs I thought maybe it was having a negative affect, so I went home put it back on and did a few more runs. Ran pretty much the same with it on and off.

Heres the charts from gtech.

I have the RR. I like it. I bought it when I had my truck for testing mods and it worked great. Always gives consistant times, which makes it perfect for testing mods even if you don't take the numbers as fact. Its consistant enough that I feel comfortable saying I cut X off my times with whatever mod if I consistantly run X better on the gtech. I still run on the track as well but for times like now when it is closed and just for testing and practice the gtech is perfect.

As pressurecooker mentioned, I think it sounds like your ecu is pulling timing, as well. It has been found that the engine just doesn't like 91 octane.

To see : Try some gasoline additive like lucas octane booster to stop it pinging. Do a full tank of additive enriched gas. After filling up, get it somewhere you can park it and unplug the negative on the battery for around a half hour, so the ecu reserts. After that give it some gradual learning for a few miles, and start doing a couple full 3rd gear pulls on the highway. Once you have done all this, you will be able to try your 1/4 mile run and see if timing is the issue, here. I feel bad for you cali guys in the land of 91 octane super.

Do you have to put in the booster with the tank almost empty then fill up, or can you add it anytime and top off? I already filled up today.

The instructions say to add it to your tank, then fill up....

Hmm, that's not all that clear. I'd assume then you could have half a tank, put it in and then fill up. Guess it doesn't matter, I've already burned up almost half the tank. I'll burn up the rest tonight anyways and do all this in the morning.

And another thing, I filled up with Chevron today. I remembered ever since I started working on the boost leaks I had been going to Shell. I've never used Shell in my life but have been trying different gas seeing if any feels better... Well after feeling up with the Chevron today, it started feeling stronger than it was with the Shell after about 50 miles. I don't know if I was just imagining it or what but maybe the Shell station I was going to sucks. I'm going to do a couple gtech runs with this gas, then try the booster tommarrow and see what happens.

Chevron is GOOD gasoline. It was the first brand certified as "Top Tier" meaning it will keep your engine running clean. They add Techron to their gas which does good things to your fuel system. A bottle of the concentrate every oil change will keep everything clean. I've had SEVERAL different mechanics recommend the stuff and one admitted even using it to do a fuel injector cleaning.....for $60.00!!!!!

Dusty

PS....Chevron 93 octane is the only gas I use.
