Default I'm new to DF

Hey Everyone !!
I am a proud new owner of a 05 SRT-4 ! My wonderfull husband bought it for me for Christmas (what a supprise early present !) . Its got a factory moonroof and its Orange Blast !! What a color ! What I would like some info on is this . Is there anyway to get a little more boost without going broke ? I used to have a Sundance Turbo that my husband installed some kind of dial on the console that you could use to adjust the boost . That was 15yrs ago (my husband totaled it on me 14yrs ago showing off the new NOS system he installed!) , He is a top notch mechanic but says that he doesnt want to touch this car untill its paid off , but if I want to mess with it I can . Also , I like the 17" wheels , but they are too narrow , Whats the widest 17" wheels and tires that I can put on this car without worring about them rubbing . I dont want to lower the car , I'm not into that at all . I still have to be able to cart my 2 teens around and I dont want to bottom out all over the place . Thanks for any assistance . I am sure that as I get more mileage on this car I will need to ask some more questions !

I have never seen one with a moon roof, only a sun roof. I'd like to retrofit a moon roof pannel to mine, because I always slide the cover forward when I have it closed anyway, so a moon roof would be perfect.

Hmm, so what's the different between a sun roof and a moon roof? I've always considered it the same thing.

Anyways, welcome to DF MOMSRT... A mom driving a SRT-4 eh, cool... Atleast you want to mod it! lol

There are definetly plenty of ways to add performance to the SRT-4. I don't have any direct answers to your questions, but I'm sure someone could point you in the right direction.

The little dial you were talking about is a boost controller, but I have never seen one that was actually a dial (except for the mopar toys one). Do you want to be able to change the boost inside the cabin? If so, the cheapest way to do that is with the TurboXS dual stage Boost Controller which will allow you to flip a switch to change between 2 boost levels, which you set. Those run about $240. If all you want is to get more boost, then you just need a regular manual boost controller, which requires popping the hood and changing the boost with a screwdriver. Those can be had for $80ish.... As far as boost settings, the general concensus is that 16psi is a safe maximum boost level with the stock ECU. The widest wheels you can run with NO rubbing are 17x7.5's wrapped in 225s. You may be able to pull off 235s if you stick with 17" wheels. Girls, what do you think? (you may be happy to know that two of the most knowledgeable people on this forum are women LilSparkPlug and PSIChick) Hope that helped...enjoy!

Welcome MA!!!!!

As stated, there are internal and external boost controllers. Which is what that little dial was. The external one, just kinda sits in the engine bay and you turn it left or right to put the boost up or down (on cheaper models). Or if you get an internal one, far more expensive, you can just use it like any other instrument on the dash.

I have 18x8s on my car. Well currently 15x6 steel wheels because winter sucks. My friend has 18x7.5's on his, which is a good size. As for a tire, if you upgrade to a 7"/7.5"/8" wheel, Id suggest some 225/40ZR17s. The wider tire will kick *** as far as tractions concerned. When I tried a 235 on my car, with stock suspension, I had rubbing. In order to comfortably fit a 235, you'd need some suspension modifications, or if you're really crazy, you can be like this dude from MA, and cut off the spring seat, to run 265s in the front of your SRT. [:@]

And yes no more than 16psi, even with Stage 1, 16psi is sufficient, anything else and youll trip the PCM to throw an overboost code!

Any questions, feel free to ask us, thats what we're here for. To share experiences and stories, and teach one another and learn from one another as well.

All in all, Welcome MOM!! I still think that rocks! That'll be me as a mom, only Ill HOPEFULLY be riding in my SRT-10 Viper.

Well they pretty much covered it. 225's about as wide as you can realistically go. That's what I have and they do look much better than the stockers.
For more performance, check out the "stage" upgrades by Chrysler available through any Mopar Performance dealer either online or at your local dealership. You will likely find the larger online parts houses such as the Mopar Super Center cheaper. There is almost no limit to what you can do to this car, there is sooo much available. It will probably just come down to budget.
Welcome to D.F.!

Sunroof is glass and you can see through it. A Moon roof is solid and you can't see through it unless it is open.

I think it's the other way around. Wouldn't moon mean that you can see the moon in it and sunroof mean that it is solid, no glass? Just wondering cause on my civic they told me it was a moon roof and it is the same as my lil black beast. . . . .

I have stock suspension and 235/45/17's on my car with no rubbing at all.

as far as moon/sun roofs, our cars have sun roofs my last car (95 3000gt vr4) had a moon roof which was more than double the size of a sun roof and could be totaly taken out and the glass could be put in the trunk. it could be lifted up like a normal sun roof to alow air to get in or out of the cabin, but the main difference was size and the ability to remove the glass very easy.

That is just what they have called them for the past 30+ years. Using Logic doesn't work, because you can see the sun through a sunroof.
