I was wondering for my wife, about a remote starter. I wasn't sure if it could be done with stick shift. I hadn't been anywhere to talk to anybody about one.
What happens if you leave the car in gear? Do they incorporate some kind of neutral safety switch?

some have a safety switch, other's don't. it depends on the alarm. most places will not install a remote start on a manual car. if there's no safety switch the car will drive away if you leave it in gear and start it. some alarms have these really complicated procedures that you have to go through when you turn off the car so that you can start it with the remote start (to ensure it's not in gear), and some use a magnet on the shifter to ensure that it's not in gear. you have to find a shop that's used to manual/performance cars that would be willing to install it.

Massachusetts state law says that no manual vehicle may be equipped with a remote start, turbo timer, or any equipment of the like.

Or your fined and possibly more.

I guess there were too many runaway cars up there. LOL

I have a remote start with a built in turbo timer, its a huge bitch to install, had to change out all the relays in the doors, added a hood sensor, alarm light, but i left the horn out since i hate false alarms. you will also need a key module from a dealer that has your keys chip in it so when running its start sequence it can read the chip to start. you will also have to disengage the cluch, so you wont have to push the cluch in to start the car anymore.

with mine you have to follow a specfic sequence or the car will not start at all. it takes a little getting used to but its not a big deal after a few days of driving.

if you leave your car in gear and remote start it the car will NOT drive away.... it will however jump forward about 3-5' and stall out, your remote start will then start the car again and it will jump and stall again. most remote starts try 3 to 5 times if the car dies. the guy that installed my remote start showed me pics of his friends supra who was in a parking garage and his friend remote started it and it was in gear and smashed the hell out of his car. so get in the habit of leaving it in neutral.

if you got any ?'s just hit me up.

O and lil now you cant say that you dont know anyone that has this mod. i dont usally tell people i have it but its fun to scare people in a parking lot.
