Z28 wouldn't try me today.
Here's one:

My grandfather's had a 6 Barrell carb and we loved to cruise it. After 30 years, it would still outrun the 57 Chevy topend.
I'm sure the SRT-4 could beat it.....but like the mid 90 Z28 - why would you want to - even if it was twice the price of the "Neon on steroids"?

These 2 are the only cars in the stable currently! Past cars include a 71 Challenger, and a 73 Duster, both with 340's. What an engine that was, pity they kept the 318 and the 360 alive and killed the 340
.
My GT just murders SRT's off the line, I think from a roll it would be alot closer of a race, but there is no such thing as from a roll in the 1/4. My GT runs pretty constant 13.7's, the SRT's I see run anywhere from 13.9 and up.

What year GT and What mods. All I know is there is not a Mustang old or new around here that can touch my SRT I raced a modded older saleen older style more square 95 or so i think by the time we were in 4th gear i had to be 3 car lengths ahead fact is when we were done he piulled up next to me and YELLED is that all you got then did a smoke show around the corner. My friend just bought a 05 mustang gt he did a can tune with intake and a exhaust what kind of exhaust i dont know but he is most likely around 350 hp. we have a place here where i live called lower river road everybody goes there to drag 1/4 mile and 1/8 mile lines either one when we launched he had me until i hit 2nd gear after that it was all over he was so pissed that he just spent 30k on that mustang but i cooled him down and said to him you might get close to beatn me if you put another 5 to 10 grand into it for me im at 420 or so whp at about 2800 lbs hes at 350 hp 3300 lbs so i guess hes a little fatter than me

You must be in a "fast GT free" area. There are plenty of Mustangs between the 7's and 13's in the 1/4 around here. I love my srt-4 and it's underrated ability, but I give credit where it is due. Now I have beaten 3 out of 4 mustangs I have raced against at the track, the only loss coming as my first run at the strip with any car, ever; but I do realize that there are lots of mustangs that would walk all over me. I have beaten 2 out of 3 camaros at the strip, but again, I know that there are tons of camaros out there that would hand me my ***.
Rear wheel drive and a 1.5 60 are hard to overcome. With the right work, either platform has more ultimate potential on the strip than an srt-4.
Here is an exercise:
Name me 5 srt-4's under 10 in the 1/4. Use any resource to find them.
HMMMMM....I am still waiting.
Now try for 5 camaros or mustangs under 10.
Here is a hint - this will be tough as there are so many to choose from that you won't have an easy time deciding which to use.
I walk all over either, myself, if they are in stock guise, but I am not; that isn't what we are talking about.
I disagree with a few points that STANMAN made, but I Agree with some too. Here is the point, basically;I am not so thick headed that I don't think there is anything out there that can beat me.

I know that I have raced at least 3 different SRT-4's that I can distinctly remember, and none of them were close. When it's this close, it seems like it's more the driver than the car. I know my Mustang very well, and drive it just as well. I think until I get more used to my SRT that when I race, alot of cars will beat me that shouldn't, just because I can't get the feel for FWD. Hopefully that will change with time!! I mean I have tried launching at all different RPM's, feathering the clutch, the whole she-bang-a-bang, I just can't seem to really launch it like I can my Stang. Then there's the whole turbo kicking in. You have to be a better driver in the SRT than my Stang, that much is certain.
If any of you guys want to give me some tips, I would be more than open to them. Also, are motor mounts that hard to install? And I have heard debate over going with them vrs. lower arms for the wheel hop problem. Again, this is my first FWD performance car, and my first car with a turbo, so this is pretty new to me. Old school RWD, with a V8 stuffed under the hood, no problem. New FWD with a little 4 banger turbo=like trying to learn to walk again, lol!

Most importantly-Drop the tire pressure up front to around 20 psi(maybe less). This wil give you the sidewall flex to take up the back and forth motion instead of the engine having to and sending the wheels into a fit. Hold the throttle at 1500-2000 b4 launch, then feather it out and dial in the gas. Proper launch in a FWD will have the front tires skittering but not sqealing. Shift into second around 5800 and hold to the redline in third. If you have a stage kit, wot it into third and fourth.
I hear the lower control arms do great things, but I don't want to mess with my suspension too much, I have intentions on circuit racing. Maybe talk to Ray at revitup as I think he has a wheelhop solution engineered(I don't know much about it). The motor mounts do a lot to help, but probably not as much. I have inserts, and find them adequate at the track, but not great on the street where launch conditions like tire pressure aren't optimal.
I agree, .2 seconds isn't murder, but that's not what I said. I said I murder SRT's off the line. I think if we ran a race from a rolling 20, my Mustang would be S.O.L!!!!! I will get my GF to drive my SRT (she likes to race to, bless her heart), and I will drive my Mustang, and see where we end up. When the Mustang comes out of winter hibernation anyway!! By then, it will have some stuff done to it (4.10's and an intake/tune, which adds about 27 HP to the wheels in the 05 Stangs) though, so it should be close.

Should be a great race. Get that baby on film if you can.
[sm=grinangel.gif]of course on a safe private road where you can do it legally

.
Another great thing about her, she lives about 5 minutes away from Great Lakes Dragway, which is the 1/4 mile track here in SE WI. Test and tune/open racing on every 3rd weekend!!!! When I said she is the greatest, I ment it, lol!

420 HP?? I gotta see a mod list for your SRT-4. Also, a canned tune and intake add about 27 to the rear wheels of the new Stangs, and unless it's full exhaust, and not an axle back, it adds nothing except sound. Even the best exhausts on these new Stangs only add about 10-15. It comes from the factory with a very effecient system, 2 1/2 inch with an H pipe.
