Can some of you stereo experts out there help me, I'm thinking of getting the following set up but wanna know if its good or not before laying down my $1200

Audiobahn amp 800watts x 1 @ 2ohms
Clarion deck 18watts x 4
polk audio 6x9's in rear deck 10-100 watts rms
polk audio 6 1/2's in door 10-100 watt rms
Polk dual 12' subs in box handle up to 750 watts rms

Appreciat any feedback on this set up or if anyone can suggest something better.

Sounds like a good setup to me. What subs are they (model #)? And the HU isn't actually 18watts, is it? I've never seen one that low. Should be like 50. And I hope you mean the coaxial speakers, not the components, cuz otherwise you'll be missing some frequencies without tweeters.

EDIT: Model numbers for the things you are talking about would answer all my questions.

Since 1200 bucks is a lot, you may want to get some more suggestions from the true "audio experts" at the carstereo.com forums.

And a good head unit at that - Clarion is just honest about rms power. 18 watts rms is about what most "50 watt" heads put out. Personally I am not the biggest fan of audiobahn, but it will be fine. I know the sub box you are getting and it has the potential to hit HARD, but you might want more power to drive it. Look at a JL amp or something at that level for the subs. You are also going to overpower the speakers. I would do a 5 channel amp with more efficient subs. That way you'll be better balanced and really just as loud.

One good thing to think about with volume, is that to get 2 times the volume, you need 10 times the power, so a 750 watt system is really only going to be nominally louder than a 350 watt system. You will spend much less $ per db if you go to a more efficient setup.

I would do The Clarion head or equivalent Alpine or Eclipse, an Alpine 5 ch amp or equivalent and some JL subs in a 12 w1 or something. The polk speakers would be a fine choice as they are very flexable.

That is more the direction I would go if I wanted to spend 1200$. To get true volume out of those polk subs you will need a more expensive setup(more like 2000+).

Not a problem .

You got to watch - too many salesmen don' tknow their *** and will sell you a 750 watt sub as louder just because it has a higher handling number. Truth is that you will make less volume with a 750-1500 wat sub than you will with a 300 watt sub using the same power. I have set up hundreds of systems that will make your ears bleed at much lower power levels than you would expect.

That is the exact Amp I would suggest. If you can spend more the Jl 5 ch is awesome but way$$$$$$. The Alpine is a real good piece. I probably sold 50 of them as value leaders. You could mate that with your new head unit and speaker choice and add a dual jl 10w1 enclosure and be pretty damn happy. Cheap, too. I would do the 10's since they will sound a lot tighter than the 12's and runn a little better off 200 watts. Or get a single 12 in a good enclosure that can run 200 rms ( I think eclipse makes a real good one...and alpine, too, I like their S12 a lot).
