anyone else miss 3rd gear often??
last weekend i was cruisin town and this mustang gt was wanting to race, so we go to a secluded place and i tell him when we get there that i take off slow cuz im not really tryin to break nething right now, so when we take off he gets ahead of me but my front tires are at his rear tires and then i go to shift to third and it wouldn't go in [:@] we raced again and the same thing happened, so i tell him i keep missing third and i wanna race once more then he comes up with "i dont think i can my suspension is making noise" i was like please. so we do it once more and i hit third finally and walked on past him
I had to play catch up each time cuz of my slow start. Is this a common problem? I dont race much, only on occasions, but i was thinking it was probably my fault.

My car does that from time to time, the shifter just wont go....and I can drive a standard well. Some cars have 3rd gear tranny issues, if yours is an 05 it could be one of them.
Never really had a prob with third myself, on occasions third is funky. I don't know what it is with my SRT, but sometimes it's reluctant to get in gears 1-3 in real easy driving. Most of the time the tranny feels awsome with a super clicky feel, but sometimes it feels notchy. Like the syncros are not aligned sometimes. It goes click click rater than click in gear. Anyone know whats up with that?
When my 04 was new it was real notchy. It has over 10k on it now and has gotten better, but under race conditions 3rd is always tough and I have crunched it several times. It has a false feel. That is what get's me. It feels like it went "pop" into gear but it did not. It's like you have to give it another half second while maintaining pressure on the stick and you get an additional half a pop and then it is really in gear. I dont like it, but I have learned to race around it. Could be the fluid, rubber shift bushings, rubber motor mounts, flexing shift fork or a combination of any. I plan on changing my fluid to Redline C+ ATF if for no other reason than to get some of my self induced gear chunks outta there and then maybe it will also shift better.
(I will also be getting solid engine mounts soon)

When my '05 was brand new every gear was hard to find. Third was the worst, but as the milage goes up it is getting much better. I have about 4800 miles on it now, and almost not more shift fits. Oh ya, I also had to match revs to down shift for the first 2000 miles.
I mean I have missed third myself bc of the same problem (user) of slipping of the clutch to soon to engauge in gear, but other than that my 05' hasn't had any problems really going in any gear. Even when down shifting, as long as it wasn't to high up in the revs...then I would just rev match. I only have like 1500 miles on the car though. I hope the unsolid or notchy feeling goes away. The fluid has came to mind, I read somewhere they use some type of automatic tranny fluid from another car in Dodge's line-up. The bushings are also another interesting theory. Thanks guys, didn't mean to alter the post.
