I went to empty my catch can this weekend (after about 3-4 weeks of driving) and the bottom inch of oil in there was a mix between a solid, clear oil, and regular oil. Has anyone ever seen oil break down like this?

Some OCC's will look like that, its a mixture of oil, fuel and condensation. Other OCCs will have oil in them thats normal color, or a sheer black color. And then theres a few more who will have a very light brown like milk chocolate color to them.

But yeah...what kind of oil are you running in there?

 

I don't know, I will have to check, but I get my oil changed at the dealership . . . . . so I'm pretty sure whatever is reccomended. But I will check

 

My OCC has done this throughout the winter months. I think it is just condensation like LilSparkPlug said. I run Mobil 1 5w30.

 

If your getting it changed at the dealer then its Mobil 1 FS5w30. Its nothing to worry about, its just fuel, oil and water
