Default History chanel: Modern Marvels, Gasoline

Yes, I know I have no life and watch way too much TV. Did anyone see the Modern Marvels episode about Gasoline last night?

Some interesting facts I learned. Did you know all the refiners use the same pipelines to transport gasoline to different areas of the country? The oil company's "buy" time on the pipeline. So in reality Exxon, Sunoco, and Shell could all be using the same pipe! Therefore all the fuel is mixed in the pipes and is considered generic by the time it reaches distribution stations. Imagine that, it's all mixed together regardless who makes it.

The oil companys add their propriorty chemicals at the distribution tanks. That's how Shell takes generic gas and makes V-Power from it. The person running Ghandi Mart (please, no offense meant to anyone) uses the same fuel, minus the additives.

I thought it was interesting, now back to my useless existance here on earth.[sm=escape.gif]

I saw it too. What I didn't understand was the octane rating they were talking about. They said that the rating at the pump is percentage of the amount of octane in it. So, 91 Octane contains 91% octane and 9% other stuff (heptane, additives, etc.). What get's me is how can you have race race gas which is higher than 100 octane. Either their explaination was wrong, or I'm not catching something.

Yup, I watched it too and it confirmed what I had read at the website listed below......my beloved Chevron with Techron is nothing more than 93 octane with a couple of gallons of Techron added when the fuel truck fills up....

Probably 90% of my TV time is spent on the History Channel (my daughter calls it the Hitler channel) and the Discovery Channel. Other than NASCAR or NFL fooball, it's DVD movies.......(Ok, I admit, I still watch I Love Lucy!!!!)

I watch that too, and Leave It To Beaver......makes me realize how uncomplicated life was back then, although we didn't realize it at the time!!!
