You "discovered" the "hood mod" as seen on almost every SRT-4 to hit the show circuit.

Scc link showing how to do it from last early last year.

Go, you wild and crazy modifier you!!!!

And before I get flamed for going off like this, please note, I signed up for this forum to help a member who is having a problem with his SRT-4. But this caught my eye. Presenting this mod like it's a new thing and it's all his original thought.

Yeah, he's taken a lot of flack from other members (me included) for some of the claims in his postings, but they are usually interesting and I actually enjoy reading them. Not that I take anything as "gospel" however!

Can't wait till the La. meet!

All right.Horsepower freak?Cool. Torque gets you going, Horse Power keeps u goin'. But as we can seeit's not the issue with SRT4. But we all want to squeeze some extra HP & TQ out of our engines, & the more the better ,especially when it comes to 'race'. 'Forced Induction is thegoodway to go fast, if not the only way. As we all know that the denser theairin the combustionchamber we get, the morefuel will be burned thegreater power output will be. That's why porting exhaustrunnersin the head as it was recommended aboveisn't a best way to gain power. Why? 'cause once exhaust valverunners get larger the hotter the head will be. hence all the air that will pass through the head(intake valve runners) will get hotter, density will becomethinnerresultingreduced performanceand may lead to knock because expanded air will add extra psiin the combustion chamber or fuel mixtures will ignite sooner due to the heated air, & there will be ignition retard in response to knock sensor signals which will also affect power output. The same storywith 'boost' the more boost there being compressed the hotter the airwill become since the turbo and compressortemperaturesrise, detonation etc. Therefore rightintercooling should beconsidered as an important issue. Moststock intercoolers are inefficient. But theres a lot to say about intercoolers so I won't since the space of this forum is restricted, I'll just add that intercoolers with acute bended piping should be avoided'cause they seriously affect flow. Ok 'wastegates'and 'actuators'... most stock wastegates begin to open at 50-65% boost. This leads to more turbo lag especialy on higher gears unlessfactory enginemanagment system is set to prevent that but i think thenthere shouldbe some different more expensive type of wastegate. That's why i would recommend to getexternal one which would allow to tweak that habit out of it.The best spot for the actuatorto sense boost pressure is somewhere after intercooler or before TB. And of course a good BOV is alsoconvenient. But threre's of course a lot more involved inpoweroutput gains and performance achievementthan what said above, but it's too much to post.

Too bad i don't have SRT4 to do all thatButI hope i'll get one soon

boost,
Performance Vehicle Operations, the group within DCX (DaimlerChrysler) that is responsible for all SRT (Street & Racing Technology) vehicles. SRT-10 Viper, SRT-10 Ram, SRT-4 and the soon to come SRT-6 Crossfire.
So from your post above, it sounds like you have big plans for your SRT-4 when you get one. And if I muddled through properly, it seems you are refuting someone, but I can't see how. Sometimes in a forum, a bullet format is best, or paragraphs.
I know it's the net, but the point to be understood remains.
The hood mod has not been proven to provide any gains, hard to do on a dyno. Folks noticed that any PVO vehicle racing had that blocked off. Draw your own conclusions.
As far as mods like bigger 'coolers, BOV's, and wastegates, head on over to the Srtforums.com performance mods section. Huge coolers, big turbos, any BOV you can think of, standalone fuel, it's all there, including info on the recent attainment of 501whp WITH a dyno chartNot my car, I should mention

Do you run water injection in your600HP SRT4 to prevent detonation? Or what do u use?'Cause 9.2:1 compression ration and 22psi of boost seems a little bit too much. Though Im not saying that it's impossible, it's possible, but... then thedetonation is more than possiblein that case ,and no knock sensor will help anymore at those compression, and boostlevels that u claim to be set on your SRT4. And can you tell me the name of that fuel with 108 octane level?that usaid u ran in your SRT, and was its octane level messured in RON,MON, or PON? most of those highoctanefuelsare leaded therefore u cant run them in your car unless u take CAT off. if you won't your CAT will rest in peaceafter few runs which will terribly decrease HP output. And i think u saidthat u still run CAT in yourSRT.

Though running **** out of the cars right from dealers lot when they are brand new isn't a good way to break them in unless of course they don't belong to you. How u break yourcar in will affect further reliability. I've seen forums where people complained about their STI's, EVO's, etc.. having all kinds of problems, oil leaks etc. when they had only insignificant mileage on 'em, all of that because they didn't break them in, hence all thoseincorrectdefinitions on the car's reliability.

Nope your wrong there pal. Never said i discovered anything. Never drooled over the 03 SRT-4's. Went to my dealer to pick up my mopar exhaust for my '03 ram HEMI and noticed a funny looking modified "neon" in the show room floor on my way out and got to talking about it with my saleswoman. Not into sub sport compacts but i liked the car after a test drive. But, it was sold before i made up my mind to buy and went thru another process called dealer trade to get one.So sorry that i didn't mention that some one some where had already done this hood mod. And maybe it is a new mod to some one else like me out there who dosen't subscribe to the latest issues of " Putting a damn big muffler on my civic."
