Check engine light on again!
I was pulling out of my garage yesterday and noticed a rough idle. Revved a couple of times and bam, check engine light. So for the second time in less than a month, my car is at the dealer. It is a misfire on the # 2 cylinder. I got a call from the service manager who explained that I had aftermarket parts (NGK Iridium plugs and MSD 8.5 wires) that could be causing this problem. I explained that both the plugs and the wires performed better than stock, otherwise I would not have them on the car. Anyways, I agreed to a $75.00 charge for further diagnostic work, if my plugs or wires are the cause of the misfire, I have to pay it. If not, I don't. I have about 6,000 miles on the upgraded plugs and wires, and 31,000 on the car. Any ideas on what could cause the misfire, other than plugs and wires? I would like to be as well versed as possible if I need to plead my case at the dealership. Thanks.
Total freak'in BS!!!!!!!
Sorry 71RR, but in my opinion, Champions SUCK for most mopars. This aside, iradiums and MSD's would in no way cause this. What would, is the ever typical bad injector. There are many posts about cars with <10k mi. getting bad injector codes. This response from the dealer sounds suspect. IMHO anyways.

Just like with everything from drugs to cars, there are good dealers and bad dealers (the drug part was just from 20 yr. old memories.... honestly) but anyways, Iradiums and MSD's will not make this car misfire. (unless you screwed up the firing order)
The MSD wires are horrible. The MSD Coil/Wires on this car do nothing short of perform horridly. Your better off with a magnacore wire. I don't know why the MSD's dont get along well with the SRT-4, but they don't. Other than a bad coilpack, the plugs and wires would be the only thing thats wrong.
Another thing that may help is gapping your plugs a bit lower. Maybe down to .032-.040. Iridiums come with a .052 gap, which though it may be stronger, it has a farther area to travel before its effective.

its way to easy to pop the tips on iridium plugs do not try to adjust them chances are you will brake the tip. one more thing ill bet dollers to pesos that the plug wires are causing the problem.
hey thanks for the tips on the msd wires.....maybe thats the cause of my nasty miss......ill put my stock ones on in the morning

I'd get a second opinion. Maybe I'd better go to church and say a prayer of thanks, but my MSD wires made my SRT-4 idle much smoother, especially during the Texas summer weather......

I have the very same problem with the #3 cylnder and was wondering if you found the cause yet. I have 24000 kilometers on my srt-4 and its totally stock. It first happened to me when I left work on Thursday and I can't get an appointmemt at the dealer until next Wednesday. I don't have second car, so I have no choice but to drive it until then.
If you (or anyone else) can offer any more information I would reall apperciate it.
Thanks
