Noises that upset me!
My car makes a lot of noises. I know I drive (should I dare say it) a Neon and not a BMW, but still. I only I have 7k miles on it.
1) When in low RPMs in higher gears it makes a rattle like keys rattling. I grabbed my keys while it was making the sound so it couldn't possibly be them.
2) Occasionally it makes the "behind the boost gauge noise"
3) The glove box rattles
4) There's one that sounds like its coming from my door but its not. A higher pitched rattle.
5) There's one after a lot of wheel hop that gets really loud occasionally. Then again torque, wheel hop, and the front end bucking might be the reason for all the rattles in the dash.
6) I got sorda stuck one day on a steep driveway. I spun the tires trying to go up a small hill and it made a zzzzzzzzeeeet noise. <---no clue about this one.
7) Lastly when my A/C is on it seems like its putting a strain on the Power Steering pump and it whines a little while turning. The A/C compressor also clicks really loud when it comes on. It'll also just click on and off, on and off.
I dunno. Usually I just turn up the radio and floor it. It makes me forget about all the noises really fast. But sometimes it really bothers me. Does anyone else have the rattles and noises? Thanks guys and gals.

2. If you boost gauge rattles, its bad, take it to the dealer get it replaced.
3. The glove box shouldn't rattle, mine doesn't, never did. Tighten up the screws
4. Dont know what the door rattle would be, theres really nothing in there thats loose that can rattle
5. What noise after wheel hop?
6. Me either
7. Yes the compressor is very loud, and I have never noticed any strain in my steering from it.

RE: Noises that upset me!
I rarely let my car wheel hop. As soon as it acts as if it wants to I back off the throttle. I did when I first got the car...but this is the first car I've ha with any decent amount of power. The rattle after wheel hop I haven't actually heard in a long time since I'm more careful about it. That rattle was really bad. But thanks for all of the help guys and gals!

RE: Noises that upset me!
30k Miles on mine and i have noticed no major noises.
BUT----- then again i am used to the noises that
1) 84 Trans Am
2) 89 Formula FireBird
3) 97 Corvette C5
Makes. These can be noisy cars...... to me.... the Neon is quiet.
Regarding #1 on your list........
What everyone else said....... Too High a gear for the speed your going or your shifting to a higher gear than you need to be in to move forward. Ive noticed normal opporation RPM for this car IMO is 2k - 3k rpm. Shifting the car or haveing the car in a gear that puts it under 2k rpm is gona cause the sound your hearing and gona put some strain on the engin / tranny.
Normal driveing W/O hammering on it i shift round 2500 to 3k rpm.
Its different for different cars. For example.... i shift the vette at 2k - 2500rpm tops for normal driveing. 3k is definately not necessarry (unless you want the exaust to be herd by all).... Normal opporation rpm for the C5 is 1500 - 2500 rpm - hehe the vette doesent even hit 2k rpm untill your doing 90mph in 6th....... at 140 your doing bout 6k rpm In 4th )
The rest I dunno what your talking about cept for the AC thing....
The AC is loud..... but mine does not make a loud clicking just has a loud fan sound generally only herd on the outside the car......... Now The Ford Crown Vic i drive pritty much all day Does make a loud *** CLICK sound whent the AC is on....... but all opporates normally.
Ive found stearing in the Neon is tight -Very heavy stearing wheel compaired to other cars that ive had / driven but nothing unusual IMO.
Just keep in mind.......

RE: Noises that upset me!
do you have MM? If so that might be why you are hearing **** when The AC kicks on.I never hade a problem untill i installed MM.Now i can hear everything when the ac kicks on,turning, doors and alot more like the others have said they just learn to deal with it .Thats what i did to.But i would really get rid of that boost gauge.
