Trying to decide on the best Mobil 1 oil to get for year-round use. Summers here get 100+ and Winters can see 0, but hardly ever below 0...
I don't stay on full boost too often but I am concerned about oil getting in my IC/Intake and (for now) may not want to use a catch can - read where the thicker oils reduce excess oil vapor. Just thought I'd get some opinions. Thanks.

It's best to use a lighter weight oil in the winter so that the oil can start flowing sooner/easier and reduce wear on the upper engine parts....as for the OCC, you're going to get oil in your intercooler no matter how you drive. It's a design fault in the PCV valve. Fork over the $23 now and save yourself from headaches down the road.....

Looks like 5w30 seems to be the preferred weight, but I was concerned since I read that 10w30 was used in the '04 and just changed to 5w30 in '05 for better fuel economy. Also read on another forum where "basically the guy that designed our engines recommends using 0w40 oil" so I wasn't sure which to use.
BTW, does Mopar make a catch can?

My dealer also said to use 0-40, so I have until the car was totaled. I live in Wisconsin. It's also reccomended for the Viper and Crossfire he said. But he also said regular oil was ok to use in the SRT-4.
i would never use dino oil in a srt. these cars break down full synthetic oils in a 3k, dino oil wouldn't last anywhere near that as the temperatures are just way too hot. mother mopar said that it was ok to run dino because that's what the epa used to test emissions with, so it has to be the recommended oil. prior to that change (which happened in early 04), mobil one was the recommended oil. there is also some speculation that dealers were complaining to dcx about having to give customers full synthetic when they get free oil changes and such as well and that also helped cause the change in recommended oil.
i use 0w40 if i can find it, if not then 5w30. i prefer 0w40, but it's not always readily availible since it's not a common viscosity for people. 5w30 is the next best thing, so i'll go with that if i have to.

Yeah I cant find 0w40 around here anywhere, but they have it at Advanced Auto Parts in Norwood, MA. So I run 0w20 in the winter, much better for start ups when its freezing out.

I've been using 5w-30 but am going to 0w-40 next oil change. That is what one of the SRT engineers recommended.
