As a former dealer for AMSOIL, I can tell you it IS good oil. That said, let me inform you that the AMSOIL network is set up like a Tupperware or Amway system. In order to buy AMSOIL products at "discount prices", you are required to pay a $20 per year membership fee which gets you access to their other products as well (some of which I still use).

The oil itself compares well to Mobil 1 except for the fact that it tends to thicken over time. This has been verified in INDEPENDENT oil tests which I have referred to in the past. In addition, AMSOIL costs more than most synthetic oils. 5 quarts of AMSOIL ran me almost $40 the last time I ordered (don't forget shipping), compared to $23 at Wally World.

Both are good, choose which one you like.

Let me ask you this: Is there Amsoil in your SRT right now?

I know about the membership deal. My girlfriends dad is sprung on Amsoil and is suggesting that I 'convert'. I plan on changing my oil tomorrow regardless and just wondered if anyone had anything to say about it...

 

i prefer mobil 1 engine oil, but i have heard excellent things about their transmission oil. i have been considering switching to it the next time i flush my tranny....

 

Mobil 1 synthetic here and I have used Amsoil without problems in my '99 Neon R/T, but I prefer Mobil 1.

 

I use AMSOIL in ALL of my vehicles, have been for a long time now!,including the trans. in my SRT-4_________5TOEZ_________

 

What about Royal Purple? What you guys think of that?

 

I'm going to talk to a guy today about a complete AMSOIL setup. The oil is of particular interest. They claim that you can run the same oil for 35k miles or one year! If there is any engine failure due to oil problems they will replace the engine and supply you with a rental car of equal value.... It sounds too good to be true, but has me curious. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't apprehensive.... The oil is supposedly created in a lab and actually doesn't have any actual oil in it. It is FULLY synthetic/ man made. I guess the process is that when it comes time to need a change you send a sample of the oil in and they tell you whether it needs to be replaced or just to change the oil filter. Not sure how you would go about doing that, but that is what they say. Also, their oil filters are supposed to surpass all others in terms of flow and filterage. The guy I talked to on the phone says he has run the same batch of oil in his truck for over 40k miles and only replaced the filter. He takes a trip to Montana about three times a month from Washington (over a couple of mountain passes) while towing a rather large trailer. He said he has never had a problem and that his gas miliage has increased by 4 miles to the gallon. Also, he can cruise at 70mph over the pass pulling the trailer with no problems. As I said, I am rather apprehensive, especially when it comes to my SRT, so I will be overly critical this afternoon when I go to his shop. I will let you all know what I discover....

 

If you read the fine print on a bottle of AMSOIL, you'll see that the mileage they claim you can run on their oil does not apply to turbocharged engines......I emailed my former AMSOIL sponsor about this and he never answered back.......

I quit using AMSOIL this past January when my "membership" expired. I've used AMSOIL and Mobil 1 in the last three years and have noticed no difference in them.............except the price.
