hey guys. jus writin in to ask a few questions. if u remember i was the one wit the friend who wantd to race me in his civic SI. case closed on that one. got to ride in it, no competition (the least of his problems is his car randomly shuttin off!)

jus had a few upgrade questions. i heard about the k&n intakes and was wonderin what people thought about them. I was lookin at the current air system (or should i say stock) and was really not likin the setup. Any suggestions on what to look for and what performance gains to expect?

another question was exhaust. i will apologize right now if i offend anyone. i cant deny it but i like fart cans. yes i said it! but in my defense i like fart cans for the look, not the sound. sure i like a little loud rumble every now and then but i dont wanna sound like an old lawnmower at full trottle. i remember a while back another member on here did it but couldn't find the thread. im jus wonderin on how performance would be affected, how loud is it on a stock setup ( stage 0 ), what brand i should go for, and anythin else i should look for.

the k&n intake is a dinky little thing, i wouldn't bother with it. if you want a real intake, look at the JMB or the AGP ones. you don't get much in the way of performance out of an intake, but you do free up a lot of room. the stock air box is actually very well designed and is a cai, so adding an afermarket intake isn't a huge upgrade.

as for exhaust, i'm the one with the fart cans. i have dual apexi n1 mufflers attached to a 3" turboback. i have no idea how loud it would be on a stock set up, as i wasn't stock when i put them on, i was s3.

here's a video exhaust vid so you can hear what it sound like. the video was taken the day that the mufflers were installed, so they were not broken in yet. the exhaust actually sounds much deeper now and cracks and pops more. i should take another video.....

 

thanx psi chick. so i think ill get the k&n filter simply becuase of how long they last and leave the rest alone. as for the exhaust, in your opinion, would it sound ridiculously loud? i like the look and the rumble but i wont get it if it sounds like a lawn mower. i odnt want to wake up the few neighbors and being the only srt in my town, i dont need the extra attention from the locals cops. whats ur take on it?

jboom - most of the afterkarmet intakes use the k&n filter on them, so don't get the dinky little thing just because you want the filter. i have a JMB 3" intake with a 8" k&n cone filter on it.

if you don't want a loud exhaust, you bought the wrong car. even stock they are loud, as soon as you start changing it, things just get louder. i have two mufflers on my car and it's still louder than a stock srt.

i know stock its loud. i mean that i dont want it to be loud and obnoxious. i love this car! i have been readin bout it since i saw it in a Super Street issue in high school!!! i like the stock sound and all my boys with their rice boxes love the sound too. i just dont want somethin that will annoy the neighbors and eventually me. if the sound is louder after changin it i can deal with it, i like the rumble. i jus dont want somethin completely exagerrated and that will get me some serious conversation time wit the local PD. but what about performance changes wit an exhaust system like the one i want?

 

going with a larger exhaust will help free up air flow in the system. a 3" turboback is overkill on a stock car, but if you don't plan on staying stock then it's a good choice. this is another one of the cases where you have to decide what your goal is for the car.....

if you want a very nice exhaust set up i suggest looking into the maxxfab systems. he has 3" turbacks with magnaflow mufflers on them that are beautiful systems. all my exhaust pipes are from him, and they're great. and don't worry, an srt is not a honda and will never sound like one. so put the fart can on if you want, it will never sound like a lawn mower.
