shifterknob preference
Hey, everyone. I'm thinking about coming up with an SRT4 shift **** and was wondering what your preference is when it comes to the type of ****. Do you prefer a ball shape or a type that is ideal for pistol-gripping (as is common with short-shifters)? How many of you have short-shifters?
Thanks!
Dave
PS Here're some examples:

This is what I call a pistol-grip ****.

This is a ball ****.
(I'm considering the shape of the green one on the left.)
Thanks!

The ball shape is fairly popular with other cars as well. I initially came up with what I feel is a very comfortable shape (the blue **** in the pic) if holding it with your hand sideways. I found that the ball shape is great for overhand shifting but not ideal for short-shifting. Of course, this is just my preference, but that's why I thought I'd find out what is popular with other enthusiests out there. My objective is to mimic glass, since most shift ***** out there are either metallic or injected/machined plastic that have matte finishes. The metallic ***** tend to get blazing hot after being out in the sun for a while. Chrome is the worst offender. This is partly why leather and rubber ***** are popular as OEM equipment.
Do many of you buy short-shifters? How about the stock **** - does it simply unscrew or is there a key or set screws to keep it from rotating?
Anyone have a pic of the stock setup?
Thanks again!
Dave

i found this sweet looking shift ball....... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SRT-4...QQcmdZViewItem
Ah, it looks like the ball shape is popular. That aluminum one in Ebay is shaped somewhat similar to my design, although I can't imagine how a mirror-polished **** can be that inexpensive. Unfortunately, it WILL get hot after sitting in the sun for awhile. Can anyone tell me if the stock **** unscrews to get it off?
Thanks,
Dave

I have a MOMO ball on mine. I like it the looks, and I have yet to pull it off of their either like I did with the stock ball. Yanked it off going into second like everyone else seems to do.
So there's no threads on the shifter shaft? Does that mean that even when you buy a short-shifter, there is just a smooth shaft and the **** is free to rotate eventually? I'm guessing that the inside of the **** is rubbery? Thanks for the info so far and sorry for all the questions. I'm trying to see if this is something I can duplicate in a glass-like ****. Any info is helpful.
