you should have seen the other guy-
Help. I got rear ended on friday, on my way home from a long and lousy day at work.
His is totalled, a 90 Probe. (yes, I got probed in the butt.) He went under my bumper and lifted me up. It crushed/pushed my exhaust about 6 inches back, smashing into the trunk floor. there are creases in the rear quarter panels starting at the corner of the rear window. not noticable at first, but about 6 inches on one and 8 on the other. the tail light, though still intact, aren't fitting any more. about a 1/4 inch gap at the top. My husband drove it home, it was less than a mile, he said it felt ok other than MAYBE pulling a little to the left.
I would like to hear any suggestions of other damage to look for other than the obvious. I've called the dealership, and they're just waiting for the adjuster and insurance ok to pick it up. I think they'll do right by me, the guys there know my family and that it will be a "spare no expense" repair.
The kid tryed to say I slammed on the brakes and didn't signal. He was a good 300+ feet behind me when I stopped to make a left turn. and had my signal on for quite a while because of heavy truck traffic in that area and a few near misses. I have witnesses, not that it matters with a rear end collision, but I could have ripped the guy's lungs out when he tryed to turn it around on me. He p-ed off the cop so much that he kept writing citation after citation.
I'm so upset. I love that car, my first new car, and I don't even have 6,000 miles on it. It was about the only thing predicible and dependable in my life.
I'd post pictures but I'm a little behind the times and will need to get photos developed.
any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I know how you feel. When a Tahoe ran into the passenger side of my SRT-4 I actually felt sick......the lady admitted to the cop that she didn't realize she was in a right-turn-only lane. That went in the police report and I got my deductable refunded by my insurance company (USAA).
You're pretty much going to have to leave it up to the adjuster and the repair shop to set things right. DON'T sign anything until you've gone over all the repairs outside in the sunlight and taken it for a test drive over a variety of roads. The better repair shops will have a warranty on their repair work.

That sucks!
When I was 19 I bought a brand new Dodge Ram, and about 2 months after I bought it I was sitting a red light and a guy slammed into the back of me. Thankfully it only dented the bumper and broke the exhaust hanger, easy fixes and insurance took care of it but it turned out to be a big thing because the guy provided false insurance info and plus having your new ride getting hit just isn't cool! Good luck getting it taken care of.

When I first got my car (before I started with the mods) I got hit from the rear and pushed into another car. I got hit by a woman in her 1st Gen Neon. I was driving and all of a sudden I had to make a hard stop b/c the cars in front of me did so. I held my distance to keep myself from hitting the car in front of me but then I looked in the mirror and I saw her coming pretty hard and there was nothing I could do. There was traffic all around me. She had to be towed away and mine was still drivable (all I had was body damage). I was pissed at first. I wish people would pay attention and drive more cautious.[&:]
My dad recently got hit from behind while driving his 06' F-350 too. He got hit by a chevy truck and the Chevy had to get towed. My dad was driving with his trailor hitch and he had no damage at all.
Good luck with your car.

well I got a call from his insurance company. I think he's sticking to his story about me causing it. Thank God for witnesses. I now want his ***** in a cup (sorry, I'm still REALLY p-ed)
I asked how soon I could get a rental- he said it depended when he could call everyone. I'm driving the farm truck- a 93 dakota with plumbing, wire cable and wood in the back. You know, it doesn't corner like my car..... it's been a great truck, but after 170,000 HARD miles it's a little rough. and is eating gas like you wouldn't believe. I know I am the minority but I've been getting 25-30 miles per gallon in my SRT. and that's with a lot of "wonder how fast we can get it to 80" driving. and the husbands version of pleading the 5th "you know I never look at the speedometer". (former drag racer that owned Dusters and Roadrunners now a 69 Baracuda in need of restoration)
well the doctor sent me in for xrays yesterday, I think it was overkill- I just really need a chiropractor. he hit me pretty hard, but nothing is broken other than my boy's butt.
I'm hoping it's just body and exhaust damage, worried it may be more involved than that. I'm not even as worried about it looking as good as I am driving the same. I'm one of those people that can tell if I loose a wheel weight on an old 4 wheel drive truck.
argghhh! I even park that car on the FAR side of parking lots to keep it nice. but after waxing it so many times I notice EVERYTHING that is messed up.
OK I'll try and quit venting. I figured this group would understand as we all seem to be completely taken by these cars. They do become part of you. Mine has become my "wings" and after 4 days of not driving it I'm beginning to twitch.

If the cops issued him citations, you shouldn't have too much to worry about and unless you make some expensive medical claims, most insurance companies will just pay for the repairs. Rental car coverage is an option on most policies, if you have it, they should approve you for a rental vehicle ASAP. Just watch out for the maximum they will pay per day, don't rent a 4X4 crew cab with a maximum of $25 per day for a rental on your policy.
Your car will survive, just don't accept it back until you are 100% happy with it.......

well the kid is playing hide and seek with his insurance company. They won't authorize a rental car or an adjuster to look at it until they get his statement. (hello? it was a rear end..and I have witnesses) I have called his insurance several times a day. I may have to file under mine to get this moving or I may be waiting even more. I'm getting angrier.
I will be unbearable until everything is right. We are taking it to the dealer for repairs. We've bought 2 cars off of them in a year and a half, and they want to sell us a truck in the worst way, hopefully that will help get it done well and quickly.
quess I won't be renting a Viper...
