you sure that the smoke came from the ecu?
were you just hitting on the key and trying and trying and then it just started to smoke?
it doesnt seem like the computer could be the problem...unless it isnt properly grounding the starter relay or something...its hard to say without poking around in there....but if it doesnt even crank, or click at all...it doesnt sound like your starter relay is working

How long was the battery disconnected prior to the install? It needs a certain amount of time to fully discharge. Try disconnecting the battery again and wait about an hour, the reinstall the PCM fully securing everything. Turn the key to the on position until you hear the fuel pump kick off and then try to start it.
just like RR said...you might just have to clear aall of the fault codes and stray magnetic energy in the circuitry....just snag the neg batt cable off and wait...only time will tell..but I hope that you can get this sorted out without having to o to the dealer.
P.S.- If you go to the dealer, install alll of the original stufff on it before you go. The techs there will most likely be over their head anyways, but try to get it back to stock as far as wiring and extrenal stuff goes. The switch back to OEM stuff will also help them get you a bunch of brand new stuff under warantee a lot easier

sounds like you fried the factory wiring harnes there dude. Best thing is take all non stock parts off and put back all the stock parts call the dealer were you got it from and say hey it wont start, and stick to the story, chanses are you can get it worked under warranty, DO NOT mention anything about trying to install the stage 2, if they ask, hasnt showed up yet....
well, tried everything suggested today and still a no go. am taking it too dealer tomorrow and am going with the, "i dunno what happened" thing. I still dont see how what i did caused the problem. pretty simple procedure to unhook battery, disconnect harness, take out factory computer, install new computer, then hook battery back up then smoke...... changed everything back the way it was and nothing. I personally think something was wrong with the new computer, why else would it smoke? as soon as i seen it i undid battery. hope this isn't a precursor to the rest of my build up. thanks for all the input though, it gave me momentary hope anyway.
Hey, Damntred.
You didnt accidently installed the No. 1 electrical connectors on the the No.1 (GREEN) tray? I just had a fellow SRT'er go thru the same problem. He forgot to install the plastic Elec. Conn. on his ECU and he had the same smoke....
Sorry about ya ride
