need stage 2 install help
I just recieved my stage 2 upgrade packacge and started to install it. first thing i undid my computer and installed new computer and when i went to turn car on..... smoke from computer. I turned it off and decided to put my old computer back in and did. now it doesnt work. car wont turn over at all. I have no idea what happned. does the old computer need to be reprogrammed since i had dissconnected it? I checked all fuses and relays, all good. there are no burnt wires or anything. Is there an inline fuse i dont know about between computer and fuse block? all pin connectors are in correct position and nothing is misaligned. I dont understand what could have happened. all i did was unplug one computer for another and now neither works. hope someone here can help.
Your old computer is programmed/flashed at the factory....did you disconnect the battery before starting the install? If not, that's a possible reason for the stray electrons.....
Exactly! Before you do anything, disconnect the negative battery cable, let it sit for a few minutes, step on the brake a few times, re-install original ecu/pcm, then hook up battery again.
Good luck.
Good luck.
Only thing that comes to mind is that maybe the connectors weren't fully seated. Have you called the 800 number on the instructions? The Mopar guys have shown a williness to help that is fantastic.
another note. the idiot lights in the dash. oil, abs, and check engine lights all stay on even if key is out of igniton. its a 94 neon srt-4 by the way. would a new computer smoke because of a break in? doesn't sound right to me. didn't smoke till i tried to start car, not when i hooked battery back up. and they are idiot connectors, cant get them on wrong. so now im out my car and a computer. no warranty on computer no matter if its factorys fault or mine. says that on the instruction sheet. right now im not feeling too good about my stage 2 upgrade.
I haven't taken my SRT-4 ecu out yet so I don't know if there are the usual pins on there, but I have bent pins on other vehicles doing a ecu mod. You'll want to be careful of that.
