Default New SRT-4 Owner questions

I just bought an srt-4 yesterday. I was wondering if there is any parts to extent the life of the car. I have heard that the stock blow off valve isnt all the great from a few people. I have also been reading on these forums about the OCC and spark plugs and wires. Is there anything else i should go for?? I dont want to get too extreme into the mods just yet.

Any input would be great. Thanks.

The $20 OCC is virtually a "must have" if you plan to keep your car for any period of time. It keeps the oil from blowing past the PCV valve and gunking up your throttle body and intercooler. There are dozens of posts about it here and a "sticky" at the top of this form with some links.

New plugs/wires are a good investment as well since the stock ones don't hold up well to the heat.......

After that, it's basically what ever you want and can afford.....

catch can is not needed 100%, when you go big turbo, catch can's become a boost leak, you'll all find out you wasted time and money in the end

The original question was in reference to extending the life of his car. Going "big Turbo" doesn't fit into what he was asking about. For someone running the stock turbo with normal mods, the $20 OCC does a good job of keeping the oil out of the intercooler and tb. Going with a bigger tubo changes the entire engineering and set-up of the car.......

What would you recommend for a BOV? a decent price for proformance ratio. I was also looking at some BOV convesion kit. Does that even do anything, just seemed to change the sound... Im a total noob when it comes to adding parts to cars, especially messing with turbo's. My only experience has been if its not broke dont fix it. On my other cars i fixed simple things like fuel pumps, brakes/rotaters, air... etc.

My dad was checking out the OOC and we were kinda wondering if there was anyway to just make it reconnect to the oil dip stick to drain back into the motor. I don't know we are going to try to mess around with the design with it see what we can come up with. Really he thinks they should just fix the pcv valve so that oil doesnt move threw it so fast so maybe it can fall back down into the engine, i guess that might not matter if ur redlining it or something for long periods of time.

You're right in thinking that Dodge should have redesigned the PCV valve. Perhaps they were thinking that the SRT-4 was going to be a limited production model, so they didn't want to spend the money.....I don't know.

The Mopar BOV is a fun "toy" that isn't too expensive. It doesn't do a thing for performance, but it does sound cool and scares the bike riders and joggers......

The $20 OCC is a cheap fix to Dodge's oversight or lack of concern. It's been a popular topic here in the SRT-4 section for a couple of years and there have been very few negative comments about it......it DOES WORK.

No blow off valve does anything for performance. However, what it does do is vent the pressurized air back to the atmosphere. I have a Mopar BOV, as does Dusty, and many other people on this forum. It helps the longevity of the turbo, and when installed properly using some permatex hylomar HPF sealant, it WILL not leak. I run 19/20lbs of boost through my blue plate, with no leaking at all.

My advice:
Plugs: NGK 4306 (gap @ .052) $3/piece x 4
Wires: Moroso or MSD $40
Catch Can: $20 OCC (which is really $32-35)
Coilpack Heatshield: $30-50 longevity of the coilpack and more heat blocking for your wires
Mopar BOV: $50

Those are all a great platform to start with, to help with the life of the car, its good health, and future modifications if you want to go that route.

More longevity tricks:
Tranny fluid flushes with ATF+4 and Mopar Friction Modifier every 12k-15k
Oil Changes are a MUST every 3k with Mobil 1 5w30 FULL SYN oil only
Rotate those tires every other oil change, or say goodbye to the front ones in about 10,000 miles. They have a very poor treadwear rating.

I can't think of anything else other than WELCOME and good luck with the car, any other questions feel free to ask we're all here to help.

Id go with an occ. I went to a hose shop and got some hose to handle high temps and pressures and it isnt fazed by engine temps and with quality clamps it wont leak.
I would also change out the plugs and wires asap, but keep the stock coil.

LSP- how does a mopar BOV give the car any longevity?

I cant seem to find a Mopar BOV for 50 bucks unless you think the conversion kit, then that is 60ish. Do you have a link to a site with a good blow off valve?
