Well mine are touching the plastic and to date never had any problems with melting. Mine has all the normal defects, drivers side sticks out 1 1/2 inch more than the pas side, but they are both level so i can live with that. On the changing lengths after a good race they stick out almost 4 inches beyond the bumper, after it cools, like over night you can hardly read the Borla on the tips...was told this was a normal thing with stainless steel...I do know this much watch the tips they will burn the hell out of you if you touch them after driving....makes me wonder how come the plastic bumper dosent melt...guess that is another post...melting bumpers.

something doesn't sound right there Andy... you may want to get that looked at... 4 inches..?? 4 cm maybe... metal doesn't expand that much... it would melt away long before it moved that much...

thermal characteristics of plastic keep it from melting... much like boiling water... it has to hit a certain temp. to melt, deform, etc... and yes I there is a sarcastic tone to this...
