Those with AEM intakes....
WOW that is crazy. I read the post and checked mine. I have had mine for a year or so and KNOCK ON WOOD nothing was wrong with mine. What do you think caused that??????
I actually just bought a used Perrin SRI from another owner. With my boost levels I won't have to worry about it sucking itself shut (a common problem for those holding higher levels). It won't wear holes into itself like the AEM did, and I DEFINITELY don't have to worry about it grounding out my battery.

I'm really pissed off, I just checked my intake and it's breaking at the weld just like LSP's intake. AEM really needs to do something about this. Any word from AEM regarding this?

This is just one of many examples of why I won't buy anything AEM.

Like I said I just bought the Perrin SRI. However, Tuesday I'm gonna get the reciept from the body shop and fax it to them somehow. I'm still gonna go through with it, because if it helps other people its worth it.
Well the good part is, it is metal and can be welded. The bad part is, I hope nothing got sucked into the turbo. I don't know because I cant see from the pic, but isn't the standoff bolted to something stationary? If it is, and you have stock motor mounts that let the engine move a lot, then I would not be surprised to see this. Really. The intake should be fastened to the motor to allow it to move with the motor. I realize the stocker is mounted to the body but it also has a flimsy plastic tube with accordian style flex joints to let the engine move. That is how it survives. This engine moves a lot.
I mean this really sucks that this happened to you, but I would have been wary of that mounting system with the rigid pipe. Something has to give. Vibration is evil.

As long as you aren't running seriously high levels of boost the Perrin will suit you well. Go big turbo and try to hold alot of boost...forget it, it sucks itself shut. But I wont ever take the car to that point, at least not soon. The money isnt there. So for right now this is what Im sticking with.
Pressure, I took a picture of the turbo, and was listening to it through my little car stethoscope thingie too. Everything is well. The piece that broke off the intake stayed on the bracket. So lucky on that one. But I will keep you updated as to what AEM does with this.
