Wanna see a problem child, come meet up with my demonic SRT-4. I've had everything BUT (with the exception of a few) the common problems go wrong with my car. My 02 sensor (downstream; code P0038) went bad a couple thousand miles ago too. If replacing it doesn't help you, try spacing it out, or wrapping it. Thats a common fix for most Lancer/EVO owners.

1) boost gauge replaced
2) After recent monsoon rains finding right front carpet wet

3) as of 09/07 having engine idle problems. While moving (coasing/cluthing) Idle will hang at 2K then fluctuate up and down until I come to a complete stop.

Problems with the SRT4 05........Lets see where to begin.....first cylinders spark plug fell a 1/4 in into the block causing an engine replacement. Get the code P0038 every opther day which is Low Brake Voltage???? The first start of the day I cant keep it running untill it gets at least above outside temp. I have a radiator leakat the Coolant fill. And suspension bushings need replaced. This is all within 8 months and 18,000 miles. But on another note its the only 6 speed srt-4 on the block

oh and with the problem going into 3rd gear isnt the tranny itself. The 3rd gear issue is a wire that blocks the smooth shift. Looking at the engine, look towards the back of the tranny and youll see the wire just reroute it and youll lose your problem.
