Default Rust on the new SRT-4

i just went out and looked at my one month old electric blue srt and yes there is a little surface rust on ithope that won't affect my e.t.s! i build the srt's and can tell you they check each one over pretty darn good before they go out the door.if you're that worried about a little surface rust on the sway bar, don't buy one. the next guy ordering one will thank you.i work there and it took me almost 11weeks to get mine.by the way, chrysler is planning to step up production on the srt.

I agree... if a little surface on parts under the car stop you, you didn't really want an SRT anyway. Cause a little surface rust wouldn't stop me, especially on something like the sway bar... if the links that hold it on are ok... it's good for me... LOL!!

Just sand away the surface rust and paint it. Or even better, take it off and have it powder coated.

Powder Coating is N-I-C-E!!!!!!!!!!!! But can be costly if you don't know someone. Would you really recomemmed it under a car? In harsh conditions like snow and stuff? (I'm asking because I've considered it for some things on my truck, and I heard not to because of the weather I drive in...)

I think you all who believe this is no big deal are missing the point. NEW, CAR, RUST, BAD. Once I pay the dealer 22k I can take my NEW car home and start fixing the shoddy work? Please. Once again continue making excuses for chrysler and turning a blind eye to substandard craftsmenship and you will be very sorry. If you care about the product you will DEMAND a superior one.

Hey, Ibuildem guy you say they check the srt over thoroughly? I guess they don't look under them? If rust is ok makes me wonder what else is OK. If you work at the factory would you please talk to somebody in authority and tell them that RUST on a NEW car is unacceptable. It blows my mind how you can accept this! I could understand if we were talking about a eight thousand dollar yugo. 22k is some serious cash for most people. I already know what your canned response will be "go by a jap wagon". You know what, that kind of atitude is why the imports have over run our country. Having a love it or leave it atitude no longer works in a global economy. We as americans need to demand more of our AMERICAN manufactoring plants. And what better place to start then with out CARS.

As far as not ever really wanting a srt I disagree with you. I've lusted for one of these cars for over a year and have every mag that had a article about them as well as video recordings of every car show I saw who test drove one. The srt is faster then my 87 911 carrera. I test drove the car and fell in love. It handles like it's on rails and it accelerates like a rocket. The srt would smoke my 911. However, my 87 carrera didn't and still doesn't have a spec of rust on it's suspension and sway bars. I guess what I have to do is lower my standards as far as craftsmenship go? No, way.

Ibuildem, guy I'm relying on you buddy to talk to somebody at that factory and to see that they do something about the rust. Why should you? Just think of it as job security. Guten tag

I'm not at all missing the point. I totally understand, but it wouldn't stop me, that's all I'm saying. I went and looked under a few at my local Dodge Dealer, they didn't have any rust whatsoever... so I'm not so bothered by it.

Ha, made you look!

Dodgegirl, I completely understand your point of view on the matter. I myself have not resigned myself from still purchasing a srt. I'm hoping that things can change. Perhaps our friend ,ibuildem, who is on the inside could help us go about doing so. I guess as a last resort I could order mine with special attention to the undercarriage and sway bar.

The other thing concerning me is ibuildem's atitutde about my concern. If I was to have a "take it or leave it" atitude in my retail business I would be out of business rather quickly. Perhaps ibuildem doesn't realize that if I don't buy a srt that is one less car he gets to build and less labor needed by dodge. Seems to me ibuildem you would want everyone in the world to buy a srt. That way more work, more hours etc. See how all that works? Usually, when a potential customer expresses a concern I see what I can do to fix the situation not tell them to take a hike. Ibuildem, please help me fix my concern. That way you get to build more srt's! Work, pay, buy more mods for your srt.

I do not doubt that the SRT-4's, as well as all the other vehicles, get one helluva inspection before leaving the plant. Some cars make it to the dealerships rust-free and some don't, but I can explain why. When the cars get loaded on the trucks for shipping all is well, they get to the dealership. Here is why some arrive with rust and some don't. If the truck delivers the cars with nothing but nice weather the entire way, they arrive rust-free. If the truck has to travel through bad rainy weather, the water gets thrown off of the trucks wheels as well as all the other vehicles all over and under the cars being transported, thus causing premature rusting. That is why some have rust on arrival, that and their lack of any coatings to prevent rust.

This is not an excuse for their lack of attention or quality, it is just an explanation as to why some arrive with rust while others do not. You mention your 911 still not having any rust, but how much did your 911 cost new? As far as alot of imports not having rust, check out their rotors, almost every car has rust on their rotors after it rains.
