Extended warranty or not?
I just want to get a few of your opinions about the extended warranty. I was looking to get the 6yr/100,000mile max care warranty, but I just dont know if I would every use it enough. I got two price comparisons and the dealer I did not buy my car from gave me the best one, $2300. The other said $3500 and I already bought two cars from them, so I am done dealing with them. I just think that $2300 can go a long way on fixing problems down the road. I just dont want to reach 100,000 without any major problems and feel that I totally wasted $2300. Please leave your opinions, especially those of you who have high mileage.
Also, I am the only driver/owner of my car. It does not get treated bad, because I dont want anything happening to it. I get all services done before recommended and use synthetic. Plus majority of mileage is highway miles.

I've been in this business for 30 years now mostly as a Service manager and warranty manager at dealerships. I know the mark up the dealer puts on these extended warranties borders on highway robbery. Have you checked with your insurance company, some insurance companies like GEICO offer extended warranties also that may be priced better if you're still interested.
Anyway, you wanted an opinion whether you should or shouldn't. Heres my 2 cents worth,,,,,,,,,,I would keep my money, invest it in a CD or savings certificate for 6 years and ride it out.
You all have heard or read about secret warranties?,,,,,,,call it customer assistance if you like that term better. If you maintain good service records and follow Dodge's recomendations and work closely with a straight forward dealer you don't need the extended warranty.

I actually just cashed in my extended warranty cause im going stage 3 and i dont trust anyone else to work on my car. They can save you but like Talisman said,if you stick with the same dealer there is a "dealer asst."that they can offer. If you plan on modding like crazy really the only things that will be warrantied would be interior parts, but then you have a deductible plus the chance that its not covered.Waste of money in my opinion.
I get extended warranty offers all the time in the mail. Prices vary as does the coverage. If you take a lot of extended trips it might be worth while for the peace of mind. If you mostly drive around your home area, you're probably better off getting all your service work done at one dealership and/or maybe joining an auto club like AAA for their roadside assistance for the occasional vacation trip. Some states, like Texas have a # you can call for free jump starts, tire changes, a gallon or two of gas, etc.
It's a fact of life that most products, once past the initial "break-in/burn-in" stage, perfom quite well for a number of years. Look at it from the business end........no business is going to make money (and stay in business) by offering extended warranties if the odds favor them losing money by having to make a bunch of repairs. One reason extended warranties are pushed on people so much is that most people never use them or under use them, be it cars, electronics, etc.......

I got my 60 month/100,000 warrenty for $1800. Recently a bearing in my steering column started to go and the whole steering column has to be replaced costing $1100. Haven't fully checked on it yet, but I'm pretty sure the extended warrenty will cover it.... Hard choice to make...
This can be answered very easily. Planning on modifying the car with aftermarket parts and don't have a mod friendly dealer in your area? Don't extend the warranty.
