Mess-up??????
Washed the car today and the engine and now the car is all jacked up. The car is missing and when I try to boost man it feels like its going to blow up. sounds like the turbo is coughing out the intake, water obiously water got in somewhere. anyone had this problem yet? man something really f--ked up here! thanks forum.
Never, ever wash an electronically controlled engine like this. You can clean piece by piece but don't hit it with a hose or any type of engine cleaner. I quit allowing that at my dealership 20 years ago. Water gets into electrical connections and screws everything up. Start diconnection connections and drying them out with air or some other way.
Back in the old days you could get away with a steam clean of your engine if you covered the plug wires, the coil, and the distributor.
Now I just use a sponge and a LITTLE soap and water........progress is great........, I think.

In my 2.5 years of detailing I've never ever had a problem with powerwashing or hosing down an engine. Well except once, on a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee, I moved the throttle cable a bit. No big deal.
I soak my car with simple green, put a bag around the intake and "mist" the water onto the engine. Comes out just fine for me, with no issues whatsoever.

I had to quit letting my Technicians do engine cleaning because the dealership couldn't afford the lengthy, time-consuming comebacks associated with getting the electronic controls wet on the cars back in the 80's. Clean it piece by piece, cover up electric connections and if you want to use pressure plan on having a problem.

IF you choose to wash the engine with a hose, plan on unplugging connections and letting the car sit for a while to dry out
or lots of plastic, rubber bands and zip ties to block off the places you dont want water
then again if you have a few hours, piece clean it

Took the car apart ( intake, catch can, connectors, ignition and so on). Runs great now. Think I got the filter a little to wet, and its a long CAI. Oh well, all is good now. Thanks forum.
