I have to agree. Those fake CF gas cap covers, door pillar covers, etc., only cheapen the car. It's fine the way it is, IMHO.[&:]

How would a 71 Hemi Cuda look with a t-top roof? Or maybe an air scoope on the trunk? Imagine seeing a pistol grip replaced with a typical “T” shifter made from antlers that you could buy from say Autozone. I have to agree with the guys why ruin the SRT’s classic looks and what weight savings are we looking at here one sheet of paper versus 1-1/2 sheets in weight difference.
Years ago a friend of mine used to race a modified 429 Boss Mustang and car weighed way under stock. He kept getting beat by the same stock 340 Dart at the track. After taking off over 100 lbs of the weight of the Mustang he challenged the dart for a race, winner buys dinner for the guys. The Dart owner said desperate means calls for desperate measures and proceeded to remove the rear seat and won the race against my buddies Mustang yet again! The point I am trying to make is that Mopars don’t need to shed weight to win races they do it by performance.

Agree. I won't have my SRT-4 looking like some ricer POS just to save a few pounds. However, power to weight ratio does matter no matter who makes the car, so I keep my trunk empty except for my duty gear. Saves a wee bit on the gas bill as well.[&:]

Changing the subject slightly about modifications but...my fuel tank is too small! did mopar provide options on the SRT-4 on the fuel tank? I mean I have to fill up once a week (I get about 220m on tank).

It IS a small tank, only around 12 gallons. I suppose PVO didn't look at the SRT-4 as a long distance cruiser. Then again, gas weighs over 6 pounds a gallon (there's the weight thing again).[&:]

Yup, 12.5 gallons to be exact. However, on the trip down to OK, I got about 300 miles to the tank at 30 mpg- I was pretty happy with that. At home though, I only get about 200 miles to a tank at about 18 mpg. Moral? Stay out of the turbo if you want mileage- of course, if that's what you're about, you wouldn't have bought the car.

Yup. You can use the boost gauge as a fuel economy gauge as well...the lower the reading, the better gas mileage you'll get.[&:]

I very much agree that the issue of power to weigh ratio is pivotal however my point was that savings in the weight differentials between the stock vent cover over Carbon Fiber has to be minuscule. If two exact SRT’s were racing with cars and drivers being at similar weights, then assume one driver had an ink pen in his pocket while the other driver did not. One would find it difficult to prove he is going to loose the race based purely on the minute difference in weight etc… The carbon fiber vent cover could not weigh much less than the stock cover and so would make a change just for weight savings…?

On another subject I think my SRT is getting about 17.6 MPG is that normal?....i.e. about 220m on a full tank of (12.5 gal) of gas, or do I need to get the lead out of my boot?

1. remember that lots of ounces add up to pounds - i.e. lots of little weight savings like vent covers add up. I was just advocating not putting on fake stuff, like overlays. I happen to be a carbon fiber fan (I'm sure that has something to do w/ my aviation background- aircraft manufacturers will do anything to shave a few ounces here and there).

2. That's about normal mpg (at least that's about what the rest of us get, but I'm sure none of us would qualify as members of the "conservative-economical driving" club).

Yup - that's the ticket - keep the boost in the negative and your gas mileage is fine. Good luck, I can't do it!

running at 15 mpg and fine with it - the car is a rocket - ok sacrifice for me.
