Hi i have a problem with my 04 srt4 the other day the orange OBD engine light came on. i looked in my manual and it said bad fuel, low antifreeze, blocked catylitic conv....i checked my antifreeze and it was good, put 91 octane in itlike usual and a gas booster and light still on. now it has white smoke and an eggy smell coming out of exhaust. i just moved to college at a high elevation 9300 ft and it is constantly cold here could this be it? if not what could it be any suggestions? Also should i be worried?

 

A rotten egg smell is almost always due to a bad catalytic converter. Any time you change elevations that are thousands of feet apart you should disconnect the battery and reconnect it so it goes into learn mode to automatically adjust to the difference. Any time the engine light comes on check the PCM (computer). All you need to check it is your ignition key. Turn the ignition key ON (not start), OFF, ON, OFF and finally ON again and leave it there. Now you will want to have a pen and paper ready to write down the codes, they will appear where your digital odometer is and they will all be P followed by 4 digits, write them all down and post them here for further details or use the code list here in the SRT-4 section just below this one, the thread is titled, "Check Engine Light Codes (OBD DRDIII)".

the codes say 0300 multiple cylinder misfire and cylinder #4 misfire, what does this mean? bad plugs?

 

If you still have the stock plug wires check them first for bulging or white chalky looking areas, the turbo often times destroys the #4 plug wire since it goes straight out over the turbo. If you still have the stock plug wires replace them as soon as possible with the MSD Super Conductor plug wires ($45), they are thousands of times better than the stock wires and all have a 90 degree bend to keep them away from the turbo as well as being far more heat resistance. There could be more than one fried wire too. This is the simplest and easiest fix, so I hope that's the problem. If not it is probably the coil and if that's the case you might as well get the MSD coil, I believe it's cheaper than the stock replacement and has the same output as the stock coil. The plugs are possible too and they are easy to replace, you can either get the plain copper Champions or go high dollar on a set of Champion or NGK iridium plugs.

 

just a thought, i had the same code pop up before on cylinder 4 and i had a bad injector.

 

Get a stage 1, or sparkplug fowler then gut your cat. Problem solved.

 

my sxt had the #1 not firing AT ALL and it didnt even throw a code. the plug was out
