i bought a 04 srt-4. it has a stage 1 turbo upgrade on it. whenever i drive it it has a chirping kind of squeal comming from the engine. the squeal gets louder as i accelerat. i got some belt dressing but it didnt help. what could this be?

belt tensioner huh. cool i thought maybe it had something to do with a pulley. the belts are good i know that. its hard i am a newSRT owner and i dont have a owners manual and i cant find a service manual anywhere.

 

owners manual dosent tell you **** anyhow. best to get a dealer service manual, it makes the hayes manual look like a coloring book. anyhow, just get the belt tension corrected and youll be fine

 

i dont mean to sound like a dork , but what is wrong with the belt tensioner to make it squeel. its a constant squeal it never goes away. it also has a louder squeel somtimes that only does it when i first drive it for a few seconds and than goes away. the squeal i am worried about is the constant chirping squeal that never goes away.

The Belt Tensioner keeps the belt tight.....the sound you hear is the belt slipping.....

 

ok i checked it out. the belt is way loose like you said. so i need to tighten the belt tensioner. i am working with no manual at all and i am not framiliar with this engine. i have always had Eupopen imports.
i can see on the altinator a couple of bolts/ are these the ones i need to tighten. i know on other cars i have had to loosen a couple of bolts and the tighten one but witch are they. and also how tight should i make it.
