Need help understanding check engine light codes for my srt4
Cool ill get home at around 5:30 PM ill take photos then and post them. It isreally fricken awesome that there is a community like this for SRT-4 Owners out there to help with knowledge.
Mine is a silver (lovin the silver) 2004 with 40,000 miles even right at this moment. My only fear is that something happens to it before i can get it into service tommorow morning. Tow Trucks here are rape artists.
The day after i bought it my wife and i gave it about a 150 mile shakedown drive listening for out of place things and what not. I havent beat on it yet at all. Shes a really loud car so we learned really fast that the exhaust note is all the conversation needed while driving it.

it's probably just a clogged cat or there's no cat on it (have you looked under the car?). the oil sensor is probably just that, the oil sensor went. it happens sometimes. it's like a $20 sensor so it shouldn't be a big deal for them to replace it.
Hi, thanks for posting as well PsiChick.
You've seen a clogged cat before? Is that a simple fix as well? My car runs great as far as i can tell. Its just my lack of knowledge combined with the riskyness of purchasing one of these used from a dealer is making me nervous.

a clogged cat is really easy to fix, just cut out the old cat and weld in a new one. BUT if the car doesn't have a cat and doesn't have a staged ecu then you will get that code. this is why i asked if you had looked under the car to see if there even is a cat there.
a clogged cat is usually pretty easy to identify. you get this rotten egg smell when the car warms up. it's pretty nasty. since you didn't mention it, i'm going to assume that you're getting the code because the cat isn't there. or the o2 sensor could be shot, that does happen as well. either way though, it's not a difficult or lengthy repair.

theres a thread with the maintenance manual on here somewhere..its in .pdf format so you should be able to find just about anything youre lookin for on there....check pg.3 or 4...titeles srt maintenance manual
You might be on to something with the O2 Sensor, she smells really rich, and my gas mileage has been much poorer than i would have ever expected even when im keeping the rpm's really low I went through a half a tank in less than 100 miles.of course though my foot was slightly in it but still thats horrendous gas mileage right?
i had my cat replace with straight pipe and my car has a funky smell to it too. i put the o2 sensor back in the right place and just welded a bong for it, but i guess its just the fumes since there is nothing stopping them from coming out.....kinda worries me sometimes.....while were on this....do any of yall add any type of injector cleaner or anything to your fuel...ive never done this so i was wandering if i needed to
i get about 240 miles to a tank, so 100 miles to half a tank isn't THAT off. it could very well be the o2 sensor though, especially if the car has seen leaded race gas which i'm assuming you don't know since you don't know the previous owner. or it could have just went. it takes about 20 minutes to diagnose and replace a faulty o2 sensor, so if that's it they should be able to fix it rather easily.
04blk - injector cleaner every 10k or so (or once a year)is always a good idea, especially with our cars since they're so finicky about fuel issues. just remember though when you use injector cleaner it's going to make your car run leaner for that tank, so lay off the gas a little just to be on the safe side.iuse gumout injector cleaner and it's been good for me so far.
