A question for the ages...
Hello everyone I am new to the forum, but not at all new to the SRT. I've been following it's development and what people have to say about it for about a year and am very impressed with the car (will have one as soon as the civic is gone). I'm curious on what everyone's thoughts are on the older dodge shelby's and daytona's. We all know that for the time, the turbo'd Daytona was ahead of it's time and never really got the respect it deserved. Even more so for the 1990's Daytona Shelby which flat-out hauled. I'm wondering what people from that era of sports cars think will happen with the SRT. What sort of following did those cars have when they came out and will the SRT follow in their footsteps?? Anyways, lemme know what you think.
Since the SRT-4 will be in it's last year of production in 2005, it will join the ranks of the great DCX cars not only for it's fantastic power, but for it's limited numbers as well. It should make a great collector's car!!!!
The Shelby cars were ahead of their time just as you have mentioned. Those that owned them knew what they had, but the owners of other brands hadn't a clue. Since the SRT-4 has had the publication in very popular magazines and having won many awards and titles, it will go down more like a popular classic rather than a misunderstood unknown. The quickest of the Shelbys was the Omni GLH-S, a 4 door Omni that showed every car built in the same years it's taillights. It was a fairly unknown limited production beast just like the SRT-4, only no where near as great looking and well known.

Add to the fact that the car has a limited production run the knowledge that a good number are destroyed regularly by the younger buyers who can afford our little rocket and we'll eventually have a rare classic.
That sounds intresting dusty do you have a story to share[sm=lol.gif]

Not personally thank goodness, but earlier in the year there were stories (some with photos, I believe) of people who had gone on test drives and crashed in an SRT-4. I remember one where the SALESMAN was driving a customer around and HE crashed it!!! LOL!! Nobody died as far as I know....
