Hello Dodge Forum - Tryed to Steal my 2003 STX Neon
Hello Dodge Forum -
Parked my Neon on street here in Las Vegas yesterday - left with boss to go to job site @ 8 am in morning. Came back to car at 1:30 pm in afternoon.
Car was broken into - lower key plastic panel broken - some 2 wire thing that attaches to unit by ignition switch was broken, radio was on, and dash was lit up.
Put key in ignition - no clicks or anything with starting car. Checked wires that were broken - put back into ignition switch - still no start ... Had automatic tranny locked in park position - could not shift tranny.... Removed key to ignition - checked engine area - Then put key back in car ignition - Could move automatic tranny lever - but key would not remove from steering column ...
Called Police - will watch tonight - going to tow to dealer in morning - only 30,000 miles on this car, but paid for in full. Do not have full insurance coverage for this kind of thing that happened. All this cost to repair comes from my wallet.
Please Help Me Dodge Forum - Any thoughts to lessen cost of damage ??? .... Jon in Las Vegas
Dude, that's sad. I can't think of a way to lessen the cost of the damage, it's unfortunately already done. Only suggestion would be a loud alarm immediately upon return of the car from the dealer. Spend the money, get it fixed right.
I know I was about as mad as a guy could be when my 98 Dakota Extended cab got broken into over 4th of July weekend when I was fishing at the lake a couple of years ago. Bad part about that deal is that the only other vehicle there at the time was another Dakota Extended cab. My damage was minimal, rear side window and about $500 in CD's all gone. Bah, makes me mad to think about it.
Anyway, sorry about your luck. All you cand do is fix it, learn from it, and get an alarm. Or, leave the thing unlocked so they don't tear the car up next time getting into it. Because, if the bad guys want in, they're getting in, the damage is up to us.

Got the car to dealer - replace damage and reprogram computer system - will cost $ 400 - $ 600 - will take much more caution with security issues now .....
