Default New At DF But Long Time Car Fanatic

Hi all,

My name is Richard aka thebankerstoy. I've been a car nut since I came into the world almost 50 years ago and have had the pleasure of owning quite a few interesting cars and trucks since my first car 35 years ago! (a Fiat 600 sports sedan) I've had the pleasure of owning three different Mustang's, one 1965 hardtop and two 1967 fastback's, a 1970 Monte Carlo wth a 400 and automatic, a 1977 Camaro Z-28, a 1967 Chevelle SS 396,, three imports and various Chevy and GMC trucks. After buying my first Mopar, (a 70 Challenger 383 hp and automatic) that was it for me! MOPAR OR NO CAR! My past Mopar's include the 70 Challenger, a 1970 Charger R/T with 440 and automatic, a 1974 Dodge 1/2 ton short bed truck with a factory 440 and automatic, two different 1974 Dodge Club Cabs, one 1/2 ton and one 3/4 ton. The current stable includes my Son's 1972 Dodge Dart Swinger, 318 4 barrel and automatic, bought in 2002 with only 52,000 miles on it and it has had a LOT of goodies added on it, my wife's 1994 Ram 1500 SLT single cab, long bed p-u, 5.2 Magnum and automatic and my three toys that include a 1970 Cuda race car project, my 1999 Ram 1500 Sport Quad Cab with the 5.9 Magnum and automatic. It has had some customizing done to it right after I bought it brand new in April 1999. The truck still only has under 19,000 miles on the clock, as it see's more car shows that street use. Last but not least is my pride and joy, a 1966 Coronet 500 2 door hardtop with a 1969 hp 440 engine and an automatic transmission with a full manual, reverse pattern valve body, an 8 3/4 rear axel with 3.91 gear ratio and sure-grip, along with a TON of other improvements
that I wont bore you with here!
Sorry for the length of this post, but us older guy's have a longer story to tell!

Richard

Hi 1BADSUV,

That;s what powered my 70 Cuda when we bought it back in 1979. Took the Hemi out to keep it safe. Car now has a VERY stout 440, and no...it was not a factory equipped Hemi Cuda. Trust me, a 426 Hemi, 4 speed, 4.10 Dana in ANY Mopar, is a VERY fun ride! [8D] There is NOTHING that sounds like a 426 Hemi with open headers! [8D]

I know what you are talking about, had a friend with a 440 Challenger 6 pack? I met someone up in Delaware with a Dodge truck with a 426 Hemi that ran on alcohol, he said it ran mid 10's in the 1/4. Did you see Tim Allens custom Mopar pickemup truck with the 426 Hemi drag motor?

My GMC Typhoon made 386 awhp on 18psi, its pretty freakin fast for an SUV!

Richard- nice rides! Welcome to DF! Us 'older' guys with the vintage iron need to stick together- good to have another musclecar fan here. I see a trend among your fleet.... a whole lotta yellow! Coincidence? As you can see from my sig, I'm partial to Coronets also- have a '67 R/T ragtop myself. (Coincidently, it's yellow.....) The pic looks like AZ- that where you're from? Post some more pics when you have a chance.

Hi TeeWJay426

Thank you for the nice comments on my rides and I'd like to say that you have a VERY nice stable of Mopars yourself! [8D] I was strickly talking about myself with the "old guy"reference, but it would be GREAT to know that I have at least ONE member of the "baby boomer" generation along side to talk to about the "good old days"! I was hoping that nobody would notice my sickness for bright yellow cars and trucks! It gets back to the "old guy" thing, in that it makes the vehicle MUCH easier to find if I forget where I parked it! It looks like with your yellow 67 Coronet convertible, that you will understand that yellow IS a good thing!
I do have more pictures of the Coronet, Dart and Ram, but I guess that I should figure out how to open up my DF Photo Gallery rather than trying to post them here right? Most of my pictures are in a larger size, so that means that I will have to try and resize them I guess. Anyway, it's great to meet you guy's and I'm looking forward to doing a little "bench racing" with you!

Richard

PS Yes I am in Phoenix Arizona

Hello Tim,

Thank you and it's nice to meet you!
I keep trying to come up with an excuse like "it followed me home, so can I keep it?" or "hey I can't help it if old yellow Mopars come here all of the time, it must be a migration thing" you know, LAME excuses like that, but I guess I just plain love em, so that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Richard
