Default 2004 Dodge 2500 5.9

I have a question about my diesel. It has been running great, but I started noticing that it was using oil. Sometimes as many as 4 qts in 8,000 miles. Then it started smoking recently. I noticed that the smoke was coming from a tube under engine. The smoke smells like burnt oil. Anyone have a suggestion for me. I am told that this is an overflow from the crankcase. I don't think it should be smoking so bad. Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome to the site. The piston rings are most likely worn and you are burning oil,
