Angry solenoid pack

I have a problem with my transmission. A mechanic told me that the solenoid pack was stuck and if he took the pan off and there were metal shavings inside that I would have to replace the transmission or get it rebuilt. Is this true

welcome to the site

Any metal shavings is not a good sign and certainly a sign of excess wear and failure. A build or replacement will have to be done.
