Default Ole Hoosier Dodge guy

Please help. I recently purchased a 91 Dakota - Auto - 4.9 w/72K miles. No rust and barned for several years. The blower motor compartment is full of mouse remnants that blow-out during use. Any ideas on how I could clean this out? Also....as expected, the trans is shifting late into second. Is there a hopeful answer here short of a rebuild?
