A new user in an OLD body (part 1)
Good yall,
I am a crazy mecanic un Québec Canada and last summer, i decided to buy a Dakota 1998 that was cheap BUT the truck was sound and solid. I just needed a little '' LOVE '' in order to be back on track again. Front wheel spindle was rebuilt by an *?%E&T*T (no offences) and that was the first thing i've done to it. Than all the usual things like a global tune-up, wheel replacement, alum rins ( both Dakota's and a Durango's set.), a complete sandblast of the frame and re-coat (paint and rustproof), complete brake revamp, and parts acquisition ( both front fenders At-Pac in Canada)), rear wheel surround sheets (both sides), electric mirrors and wiring, two(2) doors with new hindges, electric windows wiring and motors, am/fm/K7/CD radio and a whole speakers replacement, K&n air filter and cold air intake piping, New rad, replaced the lower radiator support and many more things to be done including a total repaint (will keep the original RED color ).
It runs absolutely great, specially now a days with this snow storm (5 inches), it's my first 4X4 and i've had fun with it on the Canadians roads so far.
The engine is a 3,9L.
One question ... would it be worthed to replace the engine with a 5,2L or a 5,9L ( totally capable of doing it ) or stick with the 3,9L. Not that i have problems with it or anythong BUT a little more power under the right pedal would be loved.
Cheers you all..
Jacques

Welcome Aboard dompie99! Stay tuned - a Technician (or member) will jump in shortly to provide a possible solution to your replacement engine question. Say, aren't you the one that said I will never buy another Dodge product!
Thanks for the welcome wish.
NOp i'm not the one that posted '' i will never buy a Dakota (Dodge ) anymore...
I'M pretty satisfied with the one i have so far....thanks.
«And every things that were '' weird '' or '' defective '' were replaced so far and it runs great. about 14L to 100km or about 20 miles per CND gallons or 17 miles on a US gal.
Is that considered '' acceptable '' or in the average ??

Sorry about that - I had one of those senior moments!
