73 Challenger 340 4spd
Hello my name is Sal and I have a 73 challenger 340 4sp. Everything on the car say's 72 though, al the markings. The pink slip says 73. I have had the car for about six years now, and was just wandering if anyone has heard of this. Also thinking about putting in 440. Any thoughts.

Hey I love 440 Magnums but please don't put one in you Challenger. That 340 is plenty of motor and the suspension can be set up to handle like a dream and go fast in all directions not just straight lines. Why go to all the expense and hasle of a mill swap when you have an absolute diamond sitting before you. I'd love to have a ride like that and even when I had my 440 powered 69 Charger would dream of a Challenger or Cuda with a 340 and a 4 speed. I even found myself thinking about a 69 Dart GTS with a 340 for about 3 days. Make enhancements don't swap engines!

Welcome to the site!! Great to have you!!
Do you need me to explain how to upload pics... or do you need someone to make the pics smaller to upload them? If you'd like, email them to me at DODGEGIRL19@aol.com and I'll get them up here for you.

the 340 is a bad@$$ little engine. my 340 has eaten quite a few big blocks and a few hemis in my day, as well as countless mustangs and camaros...i would NEVER cut up a factory 340 4 speed car unless it has already been done so, and if that is the case, you can get a pretty penny for that 340. figure, that my nearly 4000 lb 1983 mirada with a 70 340 block, filled with emissions low compression pistons (somewhere around 9:1 with the head work), grunted through the quarter mile in the mid 12s range. you should have the high compression (10:1 i think, maybe 10.5:1) and given the same amount of work to yours, it will SCREAM. do you know what cylinder heads you have? (X, J, U)? i am running the small valve heads right now, and on 87 octane it runs very well..i can only imagine how it would run with big compression on some race fuel. my opinion look into a set of headers, and an edelbrock airgap intake manifold. i ran with the stock 70 intake for a long time, the stock thermoquad...in the mid 13s, prior to getting the airgap and a race carb. look into some MSD ignition. if you help the breathing, headers/intake, youll notice a difference.
i am, as you may be able to tell, a MAJOR advocate of the small block...but you have the engine that chrysler made strictly for performance...i wouldnt throw that away...especially, like i said, if it is a factory 340 car.
