Bad experience buying my first Dodge..
Hello everyone. I just recently bought an 07 Magnum R/T. My wife has really liked these cars for a long time and after a recent rental of a Chrysler 300 I was sold as well. So we found one in a Denver suburb which isn't terribly far from where we live. Anyway, the magnum we found has only 34k miles. It's very clean and bright red. We fell in love! The purchase of my certified preowned vehicle was not bad at all. I test drove the car and they were very quick with the paperwork and financing. However, since then it s been a disaster. When I bought the car the check engine light was on. They assured me that they would fix it and it was likely a minor issue b/c the car was Chrysler certified and passed an intensive inspection. After I bought the car, I scheduled an appointment to have it looked at a week later (bought on a friday night and took it in on a Saturday the following week). During that week, the car would die at almost every stop light I stopped at. When I took it in, they assured me the the issue was fixed and I ended up picking it up on Sunday. On the way home, the light came back on and the car had died. I took it back in on Monday and they had it until Wednesday a week and a half later. During that week and a half they repeadedly told me they weren t sure what was wrong with the car. Once it was a week old, I called Chrysler to file a claim. I also called the dealership and asked them to find a way to make this a positive experience for me. They refused to do anything. Instead, when I picked my car up on Wed, they had used most of the gas I had put in the car (it was down to almost 1/8 of a tank when I took it there with almost 3/4 of a tank), the engine cover was scratched, there was grease on the hood of my car, and they had forgotten to put the owners manual back in my car. Also there appears to be scratches in the back of the car that werent there before. When Chrysler called me back about my claim, they were very unresponsive and acted like there are no gurantees with buying a certified preowned vehicle and that I got my car back and tha's all that matters. Also, he told me that i need to make another appointment for them to look at it and "put a couple dollars worth of gas in it for me". He also said that I got free spark plugs out of it to which I said "I got $50 worth of spark plugs and they used $30 of my gas". His response was "sometimes it's the little things that count". Wow! It was a very ridiculous experience. I would never buy a car from that dealership again b/c their inspections are bogus and they don t care about the customer experience. I'm also upset at Chrysler for seemingly not caring at all about this. Don't get me wrong, I love our magnum, just not sure I could buy another Chrysler product. Oh, sorry for the book!
Welcome to DF
Sorry for the bad experience, Not all dealer are like that. Did the dealer ever find the problem? Also when the check engine light came on, did the dealer tell you what the code or codes were?

Yes very sorry to here that. After working in a dealership doing detailing while I was in high school I learned that I will more than likely never buy a used car from a dealership. Some of the "fixes" as they called them were ridiculous. Also certified pre owned doesn't mean a damn thing. All it really means is that someone went down a list of stuff that they supposedly checked over and put a mark in the box next to it. It's usually amazing that dealerships will talk about the certified pre owned car but ask them to throw a 3 month warranty in with the purchase of the vehicle they won't do it because they know they are selling you junk. If they really were certified pre owned and they stood behind a quality product that they were selling they shouldn't have any problem throwing in a minor warranty like that. Hopefully you got some kind of warranty so you don't have to pay for all of the dealerships mess ups.
Thanks guys! The dealer did get it fixed. They said it was bad spark plugs. They said they were causing the coils to send voltage spikes to the computer. So they replaced the plugs and computer. Sounds a little fishy to me but it works. I think if I ever buy from a dealership again I'm definitely going to make sure the car needs nothing before I buy it!
