Default Mds?

Greetings to all. I need a little info here folks.....I am planning to purchase a Chevy Truck OR a Dodge truck in the next two years. My current vehicle is a '94 Suburban with 249,000 miles on it. I occasionally pull one of two trailers (4,000 lbs. and 8,000 lbs.) and the Suburban is just now starting to show a little transmission issues.....note: I have three thans coolers mounted and she runs as cool as possible. I am hesitant on this MDS system and GM's AFM because I remember when I worked on commission (Still Master ASE since 1979) the old Cadillac 8-6-4 was a joke! Anyhow, according to some of the posts I've read, you can turn OFF the MDS system? Is this true? I do NOT understand why so much money and technology has gone into something that sill only gets 19-20 miles to the gallon. If it enabled you to gain 10 EXTRA miles to the gallon, hey, I'm on board! Hopefully someone can provide me with current info so I can hopefully become up to date....thanks!
Terry.
