Default ecm computer knowledge?

Can anyone help me with this? Bought a 5.9 engine/trans, wireharness, computer from 1999 van. Computer was crushed shipping. Its going in a 1970 challenger. Can I use another computer or does it need to be the original? If so why? Please help. Main reason is the original is $700 and 1999 specific. Thanks

Welcome to DF

Why? The 1970 challenger didn't have a ECU/PCM. They did have a ballest resistor, external voltage regulator and a controller for the HEI ignition system.

The reason for the swap is dependability, fuel economy, and horsepower. The newer engines produce more power with better fuel economy. Not to mention the reliability. I have the same engine in my truck with over 270,000 miles. I got the idea from magazines doing the swap with the new hemi. I didnt want to spend $20,000 on the swap. Thanks.

Any harness from a fuel injected 360 from 1999 to 2000 will work , it don't have to be out of a van .. 70' challengers didn't come with computers ... But the fuel injected motor he's installing does.
You can find that computer in a junkyard for 50 to 100 dollars .. There not hard to find..
