Default I have a VIN question

Hi All;
I'm Speed,from NE Nevada. I have a 1980 Ramcharger my neighbor gave me,and I'm trying to sort out the VIN on it. Thing is,it doesn't match anything shown in the Service Manuals.
It reads A10ATAC109079. I'd think I had the wrong number,but it's that way in both VIN spaces,as well as on the registration. Is it possible this truck was Canadian built or something,or does the Service Manual just not have the Ramcharger numbers in it?
Thanks for any enlightenment you can offer.
BTW-the reason I have it is that my neighbor was trying to replace the transmission but ran into a snag on the Torque Convertor and gave up. It won't go the last 1/4 inch ir so,and he spent two days trying to find just the right orientation to make it drop into place,but it just won't go .He said to either fix it and sell it or just sell it and he'd split the money with me,but I'd like to know just what's up with it before I make a move. He says it should be worth $500.00-$800.00,as nice as the rest of the rig is. I'm voting for selling it as is.
Thanks again!
Speed

Not a valid vin. Sure you read that right? Sixth character should be a number.......

Enter the number here, and it will tell you stuff.

I went to the Dodge dealer here and the parts woman was able to decode the number. Seems somehow,when the truck was made,they left off the first 4 digits of the VIN. She said running the rest of the number shows up as an '08 Grand Cherokee or something like that,so apparently the number's been re-issued. Not a clue how they missed something that serious.

That's kinda bizarre. Do you have any issues getting it licensed/insured?

I haven't tried to tag it here in Nevada,but it's been licensed in ND since it was new,and the "abridged" VIN is what's on the Registration,so it appears that as long as the number on the title and the number on the ID plate match,they're happy.

The title doesn't show the full (17 digit) vin either?

Maybe you should call the guiness books of world records?

How would you insure a vehicle with an invalid VIN?
