Default new to this and looking for help

I am trying to put back the road an old 82 step side. The kick down is frusterating me as I do not have a clue! I am not a mechanic!

Key off, engine off, trans in park. Adjust the cable so there is no slack, careful thou, as it can be easy to pull too far against the spring, and your shift points go high. Having someone else hold the lever on the trans in place, while you adjust up at the throttle body is easiest. Pulling it tighter gives higher shift points, and firmer shifts. Looser is just the opposite. Good Luck!

Be sure and check out the first gen ram section as well.

putting a spring on the kickdown by the carb worked wonders! there wasn't one! I thought that was weird. Now my issue is the truck has issues in the midrange like sputtering and acting like too much fuel or something. My guess is the little steel ball in the carb that I cant get out because of a little aluminum cap covering it! thinking about junkyarding today and looking for a carter carb. any suggestions for this old 82 318 stepside pickup?
