Red face new to the forum

so i have a 99 ram 1500 with the 318 5.2L rear wheel drive. no posi and just sucks. i am looking to build it and a 4x4 first gen durango with the 5.9 so i am fairly capable. i'm ok with basic maintenance work, i work at a parts store and have looked through the forum before for research on where to start. but right now i'm looking to beef up my rear end and get one with posi. i'm surre that they have better rear ends in the 2500s but would they mount the same or am i way off where should i start?

Welcome to DF. Check out the 2nd gen Ram section. You will find all the info you need there.

The rear springs on the 2500's are wider than the half tons. So spring perches, or hangers would need to change. (depending on which springs you wanted to go with.)

The 9.25 IS a fairly stout rear end. There are some good posi's/lockers available for it as well, including 'lunch-box lockers', that simply take the place of the spider gears in the stock carrier.

Lots of good info in the second gen section as well.
