Time to get a work truck.
Hello all.
I have always liked the Dodge trucks, especially with the Cummings Diesel so I figured I'd sign up and look around.
I'm looking for something larger than a 1 ton with the capacity to haul at least 15,000 lbs or so with a 30 foot Goose-neck trailer, but not looking for a "Big Commercial Truck".
Looking for a crew cab and putting a flat bed on it so (according to the dodge web site) think I should be able to get 4 pallets on it at 2200 lbs each?
Any more and I'd expect to use the 30' trailer.
On the rare occasion I get more than 15,000, I just rent a Tractor and Trailer for the day.
I see on the web site the Dodge 5500 says it can get up to 37,500 max GCVW, so towing about 29,000 trailer and load?
It lists 8350 as the curb weight "not counting the flat bed and Goose-neck hitch".
So guessing, but depending on the weight of the 30' Goose-neck, full of fuel and an aluminum flat bed I'm guessing it would probably be more closer to 18,000 or so.
Any ideas or opinions?

I know, and you figure the trailer and bed weight so that should leave a lot more than 15K
Nope.
It looks so close to a one ton that I doubt anyone will question it being parked in the subdivision as long as the trailer is not there attached.

Ah, one of those issues eh? Yeah, such fun.
I don't think 15K will be a problem at all for that truck. A good trailer, with some variety of brakes on it, and you probably won't even notice its there. Until you try and turn a corner.
