Default Right MOPAR overhead console for a STREET ROD

Good morning,

I’m new here to the Dodge forum and thought I should ask the experts. I am building a 1937 Ford 5 window coupe and am interested in installing a newer Ram truck or Jeep overhead console with compass, temp and Home link. I could care less about the other functions that the console has to offer like the tire pressure reading or mpg. I have been looking at the Ram truck short 2002-2007 units or the 99-2001 jeep units which looks identical to the unit in the link below. The Mopar consoles fit the exact look and desires I want to install in my Street Rod. I have called two different technicians at two different service departments and the both state that for what I want the console to perform, I should have NO ISSUES. Both state all that is needed is positive/ground for the compass and the same for the temp sensor. Is this true??? A member on EBay that sells complete units by the name of CRUS Chesterfield (Theo Hartman) states that the this kit is not suitable for a street rod because most of it's functions depend on signals for the vehicle data bus. Here is the unit in question. http://www.ebay.com/itm/171197753836...S:1123&vxp=mtr I have NO idea what a bus is nor am I running a computer on the car. The 37 Ford is newly wired with a 22 circuit harness. Theo said it could be done, but I would have to utilize the long 1999 Durango overhead console, which will not fit my application and is not that appealing either.

Thanks in advance for any help or assistance

Dodge uses a 'communications bus' to deliver information to assorted things on their vehicles. Cluster, etc. You would have to look at wiring diagrams to see which portions of the console could be made to work without having that bus. Could be fun.

Welcome to DF! Check out the 3rd gen ram section, might have some info there for ya.

Theo (the guy from EBay) did say that everything was sure function properly except for the temp sensor. As stated before, this statement contradicts two different tech guys, therefor the reason for the post here and further assistance.

Considering the one you are looking at comes with the temp sensor (optional), it all depends on if the sensor feeds info to the console, or the PCM. need wiring diagrams for that determination.

Exactly. I can't seem to find that info online. The EBay Seller crus_chesterfield, did say the 98 Durango overhead unit would work just fine, but would have to severely modified and shorten to work and look somewhat decent. Could the home link button assembly from this style of console be relocated to the floor center console? Here is a link to the style of console the EBay seller recommends.
