Default Timing cover sensor hole?

I just replaced the timing cover on my 2001 1500 5.9 and discovered that the aftermarket replacement has a 1/2" 20 threaded hole below the water pump that the mopar part did not have. Note that I also noticed this after I had installed it ... go me. Now I need to plug this hole.

I've been searching for what this could have been used for, was this an oil temp sensor on other years? Anyone know the story behind this?

Thanks
Ryan

I am not aware of there ever being a sensor there...... I don't think the covers were used on any other engines either....... I should think you could just get a pipe plug the right size for the hole though.
