Default New member with a special car

Hello,
I´m from México and i have a Chrysler Phantom R/T, in US the car was Le Baron well at least i know, please see the pictures. Well my car is special because it haves the 2.2 DOHC 16 valve engine with 224 h.p. . I think the performance of this car is as good as SRT-4, but the diference with srt's is the top speed some Phantoms DOHC 16v reaches 260 kph, and i have pictures to probe it. Any comments please put a message.

Am I seeing the 1st pic correctly? You are doing about 250kph, that translates to about 155mph. If that is correct, you might beat a stock SRT-4 at top end. Who was taking the pic if both hands are on the wheel?

At top end this car can beat a stock SRT-4, in México the top speed of the SRT-4 is 215 kph, in my car i could reach more speed than 250 kph (155 mph) but the conditions of the tracks in México is not the best and i could not reach 260 because there was a Nissan Sentra in front of me that (500 meters aprox.) so i decided not continuing with my experiment. The photo has taken by my cousin.
My best time in the 1/4 mile is 14.90 with my turbo blowing 15 psi

Welcome to DF Fonso.[sm=smiley20.gif] Your car looks more like the Chrysler/Maserati built TC. The 2.2L Turbo III's, like you have, are indeed rated at 224 horsepower. That was a great motor that Chrysler made, I always wanted the '92-'93 Dodge Daytona Iroc R/T, it has the same 2.2L Turbo III. The SRT-4's are a whole lot quicker than the 2.2L Turbo III cars, but I'm not saying that your car is slow at all, it is nice and fast. The SRT-4's are electronically limited at 148 MPH, but most SRT-4 owners get to 153-155 MPH before the limiter kicks in. The '04 SRT-4's 2.4L DOHC Intercooled Turbo is rated at 230 horsepower, but they are dyno proven to be putting 235-245 horsepower to the wheels. Any and all Turbo III's are very rare, so take great care of it. We would love to see more pictures of your Phantom R/T.[sm=smiley20.gif]Are you aware of the 2.2L Turbo III's head problems, they are well known for the head to go bad and since Chrysler didn't make the heads for them(Lotus made the heads)and Lotus discontinued production of them years ago, they are very hard to find.

Being in Mexico, then you know of the Stratus R/T's with the 2.4L DOHC Turbo before it came to be put in the SRT-4's. Have you driven any of those, and if so how are they?[sm=smiley2.gif]

You're right 71RoadRunner, the engines heads were made by Lotus, as far as i know, many cars have problems with them, but there are many answers, the first one is, lotus made the heads but not made the valves so the valves expands more than the head when is warm, that causes that the heads broke. That problem was fixed in 1993 with new valves. Other problem was the spark plugs, the same as valves, its an aluminium made head and the spark plugs not, so that the expansion of the metals are different.

I have driven the stratus R/T 1g (2.4 DOHC turbo and 160 hp), its a good car but the performance is the same as 2.5 SOHC Turbo II engine. The stratus R/T 2g have the 2.4 engine with 215 hp, but this year the power was increased to 225 hp, the chrysler turbo engines are excelent machines considering that the height of México City is about 2200 meters, many cars lose power but turbo engines lose power but not so much as many cars. Here we do many competitions in the 1/4 mile and the VAG's (Volkswagen) can't do anything against Chrysler turbo machines, for example here in México we have the Seat Leon Cupra R ( with the 1.8 turbo engine and 225 hp, the same as TT) and can´t do anything against a stock Stratus R/T, i have to mention that the turbo of Cupra R blows at 18 psi. The Stratus R/T 2g are excelent compared with the old one, but the automatic transmission eats some power of the car. Here is a photo of Seat Leon Cupra R
I joined in to this forum because im lookin for some performance parts for my car, here in México we dont have any performance part. They're available only in U.S.

The Cupra sure is an ugly thing, but it's boosted. Chrysler was the leading manufacturer of turbocharged cars, but I don't know if they still are or not. Since your looking for performance parts for your Phantom R/T, just click on this link for Forward Motion
