Hello, Was recently given my late step-fathers '97 2500 SLT Laramie 5.9V8 after my brother-in-law lovingly got the mileage to 210,000 miles. So far, I've put about 2 grand into her, including rebuilding the front end, new Kumho tires, radiator, headlights, grille, hoses, thermostat, plugs, wires, and O2 sensors. The good thing is that I have every receipt in it's history, and since his company paid most repair expenses, she was well cared for. Sis got the pickup when he passed, I got the 02 Monte Carlo SS, loaded, and that still only has 55,000 miles, my baby.... Good to have them in the same driveway again! Both were purchased in Las Cruces and are now still rust free near Killeen, TX. He thought it was all wore out, probably to talk sis into him getting something new, and was going to donate it...caught it just in time. No smoke, no weird noises, smooth as glass, and that tune up really woke a sleeping powerhouse. Would it be worth it to install a CAI and do a hypertune, like the Monte has? Or should I not take the chance? Peace to you all and thanks for being here.

Welcome to DF! Wander on down to the second gen ram section, LOTS of knowledgeable folks there.

Skip the CAI, 99% of them draw air from the exact same place as the stock system.... they *might* improve power in the upper RPM ranges, but, how often do you get there in a truck? Actually, changing the timing chain and gears will give you more power. The old morse style 'silent' chains tend to stretch. A LOT. Good double roller set will make a noticeable difference.

Plenum been fixed yet?
