Default New to the Forum: 1996 Dakota Extended Cab SLT 5.2L V8 Magnum 2WD

Hey all,

Since I'm new I figure I should explain how I got here. I just recently bought a 1996 5.2L Magnum Dakota as my second vehicle. I found it not far from where I live in West Hollywood, CA. I passed it one day walking to a bar down the street, actually. When I passed it I did a great double take because what really caught my eye was the V8 Magnum badge on the front corner. Never had I seen a small-mid size truck with a V8 esp in the 90s. The next day I stopped to test drive it and was completely surprised by the condition. Made an offer on it and walked away with it the next day.

I figured I would join a forum since I will make it a project. My first upgrade was some less than "caked in soil" floor mats. I think the next should be a couple of 90s mix tapes to go with my in dash tape player.

But on a more serious note...I am going to see a man about some suspension tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Here are some pictures for now. I will take better ones with a real camera later.

Welcome to the forum. Yep, Dodge was the first and only to offer a V8 in a mid-size pickup. Be sure to check out the 1st gen Dakota section.

What I found REALLY funny was, way back when, shortly after the first Dakota's hit the market, I was looking at one at the local Dodge dealer, and I asked the salesman, "When are they going to put a V-8 in it?" He just kinda looked at me funny, and told me: "It doesn't need a V-8.".... Right. The six was soooo powerful, it was all the truck needed.... Uh huh. I bought a full size instead. (sorry, it was a Chevy.)

My first car at the age of 15 was a 99 Ram 1500 V8 Magnum that my great grandpa left me... though, I dont really see much difference from my Dakota I just bought. except the dakota is lower and lighter.... and Heck-ova-lot cheaper.

I honestly look forward to this truck. It's quite a find.
